Salt Lake Bees: Portland pounds out 7-2 victory over Bees
Wood called back up to parent Angels
Brett Dowdy and Peter Ciofrone hit back-to-back home runs to open the first inning against Bees' starter Nick Green, and Portland never looked back. Kendry Morales homered in the fourth to cut the Beavers' lead to 2-1, but Portland broke the game open with a four run fifth inning.
Green (8-8) took the loss, as he went just 4 2/3 innings in his final outing before he is scheduled to start Game 1 of the playoffs. Green allowed six runs on nine hits and has now given up a league-high 31 home runs this season.
Morales led the Bees with three hits and two runs batted in. Brad Coon, Chris Walker, Dee Brown and Ryan Budde provided Salt Lake with its other four hits.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels announced Thursday that the club has recalled infielder Brandon Wood and optioned right-handed pitcher Jason Bulger to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Wood, 23, has appeared in 103 games with the Bees in 2008, hitting .296 with 31 home runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 84 RBIs and six stolen bases. Recently named a member of the 2008 All-PCL Team, Wood has played in 29 games with the Angels this season, hitting .125 with five runs, one double, one home run and two RBIs. The Austin, Texas, native was originally selected in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Angels in the 2003 draft.
