After a disappointing season to date, the Utah women's soccer team will try to get off to a strong start in Mountain West Conference play when it hosts preseason favorite BYU tonight (7 p.m.) at Ute Field.

The Utes (4-6-2) endured a four-game losing streak early in the season before turning it around and going 3-1-2 in their last five games.

"Our team continues to show an amazing ability to bounce back and not let disappointments keep them down," said Utah coach Rich Manning. "That is a quality that will serve us well in conference play."

Manning, who has gone 5-2-1 against BYU in his career, calls the Utah-BYU game one of the "most exciting matches every single year. It's one of those games (our players) remember for the rest of their careers."

The Utes are led by junior midfielder Kelly Isleib, who leads the team with five goals, including three game-winners. In the Utes' last game, Isleib scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Cal Poly.

Junior Emalee Rogers, who has four shutouts on the year, will be in the goal for the Utes.

BYU, picked to finish first in the MWC, hasn't exactly enjoyed a stellar season so far, either. The Cougars have a 7-5 record and are coming off a 2-0 victory over Utah State Thursday night in Logan. But they are ready for the start of the MWC season.

"I know the girls are excited to play a strong Utah team," said BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood. "I know they're up to the challenge. We've been working hard, and we're looking forward to start conference play."

The Cougars are led by senior all-American forward Katie Larkin, who has scored four goals this season with one assist. Freshman Lauren Anderson leads the team with six assists and had a goal against USU on Thursday.

Freshman keeper McKinzie Olson has started the last four games in goal and has a 1.06 goals-against-average on the season.
