Ogden hopes to lure commercial flights
OGDEN City officials hope that a $5 million taxiway at Ogden-Hinckley Airport will help bring commercial flights to the airport.
The 8,000-foot taxiway opened Wednesday.
Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey says commercial service is necessary to make the airport pay for itself. The city has been working with a consultant from California for about 18 months to attract a commercial carrier.
Work on the taxiway, which runs parallel to the airport's main runway, began in spring 2007. The taxiway eliminates the need for airplanes to make a 180-degree turn at the end of a runway when there is no other option.
