— LDS GENERAL CONFERENCE —

Elder Maxwell grateful for a 'delay en route'

No public announcement was made when Elder Neal A. Maxwell of the Quorum of the Twelve underwent therapy for leukemia. Yet the circumstance became apparent when he took the pulpit absent his salt-and-pepper hair during the church's general conference in April. He quipped about his exposed scalp bringing "some different illumination to the pulpit."
Elder Maxwell's appearance was back to normal when he spoke during the church's general conference session Saturday afternoon. The hair was back, and in his characteristic style he made reference to the effects of his medical treatment by saying he had "been mercifully granted what might be called a 'delay en route.' Whether short or long, it is a wonderful blessing from the Lord!"
Elder Andrew W. Peterson, of the Quorums of the Seventy, remained hospitalized Sunday following an accident last weekend. He is serving as president of the church's Mexico North Area, based in Monterrey and recently traveled to Salt Lake City to attend the conference.
