Reader comments: Enemy of the State

I really don't understand why Mr. Vice gave this film only two stars. I thought that Will Smith pulled off both the physical side and dramatic side of his role very well. The action was intense and the story engaging. I bought the movie and have watched it many times.

I enjoyed this flick and I'm not a huge fan of action thrillers. The fact that it wasn't overly violent made it much more enjoyable to watch. I was surprised to see that Vice only gave it two stars.

Great Movie. Hilarious and made me wonder what was going to happen next. However, it was a little drawn out

I like this movie alot, but I missed the beginning of it, that?s pretty bad. Will Smith is a great actor, but terrible singer, If I may say so. It?s very exciting watching it and you cant wait to know the answers.

It's too bad that Jeff Vice can't sit back and enjoy good movies anymore. At least the Faculty had some plot holes and flaws. But this movie was so well put together that I just don't understand his angle. The thriller/action combo worked so well in this film and the climax is perfect. Once again, ignore Jeff Vice and go see this movie.

I loved it. It was very entertaining.

I want to know why the new Hollywood Connection in West Valley City which includes 16 Carmike state-of-the-art theaters is not included in your movie page?

enemy of the state is a long and sometimes stupid spy thriller. the high tech gadgets were good but that is about the only good thing about this movie. the plot was lame and none of this could happen in real life. jerry brukheimer has made better action films like con air, the rock and this year's best action flick armageddon. enemy of the state was disapointing to me. 2 stars and two thumbs down

It is laughable to think that any government agency, no matter how corrupt or loaded with expertise, is anywhere near efficient enough to be able to perfectly coordinate every concievable type of surveillance equipment in real time and follow a single person on foot through city streets and buildings. Even if it were scientifically possible the cost of such a project would be prohibitive, even for the government--no matter how important it might be. Aside from that, this film is quite entertaining. Will's wife is thoroughly annoying and the mob-shootout-ending is stupid, but it is an ok diversion anyway, in a ludicrous paranoid fantasy sort of way. Hey, ya gotta love Hackman, right?
NOT A JEFF VICE FAN | Nov. 30, 1998
First of all, Jeff Vice should not have a job reviewing movies. He's terrible! No one cares about his useless-knowledge of history to the plots and directors of the movies. They want know if the movie is good, or not. Enemy to the State is intense. It could quite possibly be one of the most intense movies you'll ever see. The acting is incrdible, and the plot is even better. According to Jeff Vice, however, it's just an average flick that you may want to see if you have the time..... If you ask me, He needs to look for another job. Maybe he can be a food tester. I think that's what he's really doing during the movies he reviews anyway, he's just eating junk food and not paying attention....Or trying too hard to think up a clever way to show his useless-knowledge of movie history to impress his employers. He's more worried about whether his review looks like it's been written by someone who's educated in the movie review industry. I didn't want to write anything about him but after countless terrible reviews, I thought I should voice my opinion. HE SUCKS!....the movie is great!

This Jerry Bruckheimer production (who is the man behind The Rock, Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Armageddon..) is a smart, fresh, fast paced thriller. Will Smith is perfect as a D.A. being chased by feds who think he has a tape of a politicians death. I can't tell you much more without giving the plot away, but it is an unussually good conspiracy-type thriller packed with ingenious plot twists. and is a pime cut above last years "Conspiracy Theory". It also has a good moral message.

this is a good movie - a story that is similar to conspiracy theory - but better developed. i liked the film for its fast paced action - the running time - 127 minutes - doesn't seem too long - there's a couple of minor inconsistencies in the film - but the action and good performance from gene hackman - makes the movie worth forking over 6.50 for. - enjoy!!!
