Trent should be a lottery pick since he was a McDonald's All American out of high school
Crazy | 6:18 a.m. May 17, 2008
He doesn't have a chance in the NBA. He was only average at an average school. Maybe he can make something of himself in Europe.
sob | 6:43 a.m. May 17, 2008
not a chance in the nba but then living in europe sure beats provo

I wish good things for Trent, but in reality, his late season no-show does not bode well for him in the NBA. I think he's made a huge mistake.
Anonymous | 7:30 a.m. May 17, 2008
He won't be in NBA if he don't make free throws.
Good Luck | 7:40 a.m. May 17, 2008
What a mistake, but oh well inmature minds and agent lies along with other peoples bad advice will get you playing overseas at best. This is more than likely also wanting to get out of Dodge because of his wifes problems this past year. Running will lead to a trip and fall I'm afraid.
Chi-town Cougar | 7:46 a.m. May 17, 2008
Must have seen $ signs. Too bad he is nothing better than a late 2nd round pick at best. He has no jump shot, can't go right, can't shoot FT, and is foul prone. Best of luck in Europe.
bob | 8:33 a.m. May 17, 2008
Unfortunately, plaisted had no shooting touch. He can't make foul shots. Have fun in Europe Trent.
true blue | 8:33 a.m. May 17, 2008
good riddens. Here's hoping miles, page, harstock, or MacGregor can pick up the slack
Bash all you want | 9:02 a.m. May 17, 2008
but he will be making at the very least 6 figures starting out. How many people here can say their career field has a starting salary of 600,000 dollars. Any one who wants to bash on his abilities are just ignorant. Congrats Trent, and I hope you get drafted in the 1st round for that guaranteed 3 year contract.

I'm so sorry for BYU---Trent is a pretty good player, when he's at home and all the defense is about 6'8" and below. I think he should have stayed. It seems that the senior year is the making of the player becoming a cornerstone in the NBA. A few weaknesses that Trent has is his playing inconsistency, his ability to handle the ball, and his ability to take it to the hoop. From game to game over the last two years you can definitely see his lack of consistent playing. He scores 20 points in one game and eleven in the next. You go back over every game, just last year, and you see he either dropped a pass or mishandled a rebound 5-7 times a game--that hurts!! And last, he had literally hundreds of times to slam a dunk or at least a close layup and didn't take it (watch Love of UCLA). An NBA Center has got to be able to slam dunk with consistency, handle the ball and NEVER drop it, and come away every game with around 20+ points and 15+ rebounds.

Good luck to Trent, but unless he can learn to make the shots when they are really needed (and free throws), he is not likely to do well in the NBA. I think Plaisted would have been much better off to stay at BYU for a year and continue to improve than to leave after a somewhat-good season. I know I am biased, but I would have liked to see if he could improve his play next year at BYU, since he was a bit inconsistent this year. He should have a good career in Europe if he can't make it in the NBA, though.
Re: Y | 9:19 a.m. May 17, 2008
Accomplishments in high school dont give you any rights to be a lottery pick. He was average in college. He'll be lucky if he finds a place in the D-League
Good Luck | 9:24 a.m. May 17, 2008
Trent is a good player, but I believe his glory days ended the day he signed with an agent.

He'll get drafted, but at best he'll be a Luke Walton. The NBA standard for 6-11 guys (and taller) is a Dirk Nowiztki/Dwight Howard. Trent has a ways to go to compete with these guys.
Anonymous | 9:26 a.m. May 17, 2008
Man o Man Plaisted..I wish you all the best, just don't be regretting signing an agent..I hope I see you in a NBA uniform or a Flash jersey, yeah!
Re: Y | 9:53 a.m. May 17, 2008
High School accomplishments wont do him any good. Once he got to the college level, he had lots of potential but no drive and didnt improve enough to justify this jump to the NBA. Good luck in Europe. Maybe you'll be the biggest star no-one ever heard about (see Travis Hansen). Dick Vitale was way wrong with his assessment of Plaisted. One good game against a Final Four team does not do you any good if you stink against average MWC teams.
Trent | 9:54 a.m. May 17, 2008
Plaisted was a good college player. However, for skills needed in the NBA, I think he is lacking. He can't shoot a jump shot. He isn't physical at all.

His quickness is good but I don't think his moves that were so successful will amount to anything in the NBA. He can't play center there and he isn't an outside player.

I'm betting on a European career.
Good luck Tren | 9:59 a.m. May 17, 2008
I am embarrassed by the cynics who posted above. Best of luck to you in whatever is in front of you. THANKS FOR HELPING PROVIDE BACK-TO-BACK CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR THE COUGS. For that we owe you thanks and nothing more.
Jason | 10:04 a.m. May 17, 2008
Wow, this guy has poor post moves and still only really has a drop step move to his left. Shaq shoots better than him anywhere around the basket including freethrows and the guy is only 6'11 and looks like he ways 150 pounds. Now, I could see him going to the NBA if he was like Garnett but he is not in the same galaxy as him. I hope he gets one big check that he can sit on for awhile and then maybe convince someone in Europe to take a chance on him. As a BYU fan, I think we will do better without him.
Casual Observer | 10:06 a.m. May 17, 2008
Plaisted confirms rumor... he has no clue.

no meal ticket here
Atlanta Braves? | 10:13 a.m. May 17, 2008
why the hat?
TheHailstorm | 10:13 a.m. May 17, 2008
Just another wanna be for the, " Y ". Hoffa was way better than this guy and he was picked 8th and out in two. Play Instead won't cut it in the bigs and Rose was counting on him to take a bigger strides toward mediocrity this year.
Mission call | 10:16 a.m. May 17, 2008
Hey Trent, how 'bout this... You didn't go on a mission during your college years, but guess what? You've just been called on a couples mission. Your mission paperwork has been filled out and you're not going stateside. Brother Trent Plaisted, you've been called to the European mission. Maybe they'll let you go to the MTC for 8 weeks to learn Russian or Greek before you go! Moscow or Athens has so much more culture than L.A., N.Y., Boston, or even Oklahoma City for that matter. Congrats on the mission call to Europe Trent!!
What's wrong with Europe? | 10:29 a.m. May 17, 2008
Think about it this way: he is within a few credits of a degree, and isn't likely to go any higher in the NBA draft next year than he would this year. Why wait? Why play for free when he could get a decent paycheck and see the world?

Sad to see him go, but I would do the same were I in his (large) shoes.
OregonCoug14 | 10:39 a.m. May 17, 2008
I am actually glad Plaisted is out. To be honest I would cringe everytime he got the ball down the stretch in a big game. I trusted BYU's guard play much more than Plaisted's off balance hook shots. I think BYU will be a better team without him. They'll be able to exentuate their strong guard play with a big man in Chris Miles who can defend and rebound. As for Plaisted's chances in the NBA...good luck!
to: Y | 10:45 a.m. May 17, 2008
Hey Y, Trent was never a McDonalds All American. Feel free to google it if you don't believe me.
Non-Hater | 10:46 a.m. May 17, 2008
There are a lot of haters here. Trent puts in a good 3 years, a couple championships and this is the thanks the BYU fans give! Just be thankful we had such a great players.

Also, it seems like all/most BYU fans think they're professional agents or something. Maybe you should all contact TPs agent and give him some good advice he doesn't already know.
GO COUGS!! | 10:55 a.m. May 17, 2008
Well, good luck Trent with your professional career. Personally, I think it was a stupid move. He Still needs one more year to develop as an all around player. He would probably be picked higher for more money if he waited until next year. Anyways, I still think BYU will dominate the MWC next year with out Trent, and I do wish him the best. I hopefully look forward to watching a successful pro career
Me | 11:44 a.m. May 17, 2008
Good luck trent in the European leagues!!!
BYU fan who's glad he's gone | 11:59 a.m. May 17, 2008
I am personally glad he decided to leave. Plaisted did not improve one iota from his freshman year to his junior year. It would have been highly unlikely for him to improve his senior season. I personally think he wasted his chance to be great. This will allow for someone else to step in and help the team in ways that Plaisted could not. For Plaisted, this is a poor choice because I highly doubt he will even make a roster in the NBA. He doesn't even have a jump shot. His only move is to throw up that ugly hook shot over his shoulder as he is kicking his legs wildly. He is also horrible with rebounding as he is always out of position and doesn't match up with others his size or larger. He won't stand a chance in the NBA unless he improves drastically, which is what college is for.
RR | 12:03 p.m. May 17, 2008
Thanks Trent for 4 wins in a row and counting vs. that red team! 2 wins in a row on their own court.

I'll never forget that monster alley-hoop dunk @ CSU where even the CSU crowd was in awe!

Hope he remembers to say hi to Ainge when he plays Boston. Oh, did I mention, Boston is this years favorite to win it all. See, BYU players can end up doing great things for the NBA. Give him a chance everyone.

BYU fans are an odd lot sometimes... always agitated... it seems like the poor guy is gonna take a lot of criticism from Y fans no matter what he does.
Bye | 1:26 p.m. May 17, 2008
Bye Trent. We'll miss you. I do wish he was staying and I do believe athletes should be more loyal to their schools, but when you're married and your million-dollar career could end with one knee injury, it's understandable. Good luck to him and thanks for some good times.
Y Fan | 1:45 p.m. May 17, 2008
The only good thing out of this story is that Trent Plaisted is a Atlanta Braves fan.
Uncle George | 2:43 p.m. May 17, 2008
Good Luck and thanks.
Eugene | 2:58 p.m. May 17, 2008
I'm still scratching my head to believe that Trent feels he is ready for the NBA. That being said, he gave his best while at Cougarville and we should all appreciate the past 3 years. Hopefully, Cummard decides to stay since he would be the big man on campus if he did.
Howdy | 3:30 p.m. May 17, 2008
BYU won't win the MWC next year without Plaisted in the lineup. That's the real reason that some BYU fans are upset that Plaisted is leaving early.
babe | 3:47 p.m. May 17, 2008
Why do some of you people have to be so rude. Thank you to those that have posted nice things about him. I don't know him personally, but he is a human being and aren't we taught to be kind to everyone? I'm disgusted...
AZ Coug | 5:22 p.m. May 17, 2008
As BYU fans, we all want our team to do great. Trent absolutely would have helped the Cougs repeat as MWC champs if he would've returned. Yes, he is dominantly left-handed and needs to work on his outside shooting (and free throws) but he is doing what he thinks is best for his career. He obviously feels that his stock wouldn't be any better after another year in college, and it would be so hard to resist the $$. I gotta admit though that I don't see him making an NBA roster, although I'll be hoping he does. Selfishly I wish he would've stayed, but looking at it from his perspective I can understand why he chose to leave. Y fans, don't be so quick to judge. I want to add that I saw Miles play in the Vegas tourny and I was impressed. Hopefully he will step in and be able to replace Trent's production.
BYU Dad | 5:24 p.m. May 17, 2008
Good luck in Turkey or Isreal.
...the real Trent Please stand u | 5:29 p.m. May 17, 2008
Trent, unfortunately an agent won't improve your game.
Anonymous | 5:58 p.m. May 17, 2008
Trent, you needed another year at BYU before you should have even considered trying your luck in the Pros...you'll end up in Europe.
Rebels | 6:40 p.m. May 17, 2008
Obviously TP realizes next years team will not do nearly as well as this team did. His stock is at its maximum. Its good to leave while on top.
Draft hat | 7:02 p.m. May 17, 2008
I hope Trent Plaisted gets drafted. That means he will get a new hat from the team that drafted him and he will be able to get rid of that ugly one he's wearing in the picture. It's not only an ugly hat, it's an ugly Braves hat. Good luck, Trent. Go Phillies.
Arctic Kat | 7:28 p.m. May 17, 2008
I wish Trent all the luck in the world; he had a very good career at BYU and I enjoyed watching him play. However, he is not ready for the NBA, will not be drafted and end up in Europe. Europe isn't bad as he will no doubt make good money and have a fine career there, but if the goal was to play in the NBA, then he should have stayed in school for one more year. With one more year I think TP could have worked his way into the first round but not now. Hope I am wrong....but I never am.
Elrem from AZ | 8:02 p.m. May 17, 2008
Thanks for the basketball achievements at BYU. I am sad you have fallen for the baite of a greedy agent who has told you that you are first round, top 30 material to enduce you to sign so he can make a few thousand dollars when you finally sign somewhere after no contract in the NBA. When reality sets in, no NBA, you should smack your agent in the mouth. It was a good decision to make your self available to NBA without agent, but you should have then finished your last year in BYU working on skills, then entered draft with agent one year from now.
I like you and hope you prove this wrong, but I do not think you will end up in the NBA but will end up with anger for your agent whose greed induced you to take action where you do not yet belong.

Rumor? This was reported by The Tribune two days ago. Harmon, you're getting outworked, buddy.
John Walsh? | 8:54 p.m. May 17, 2008
Luke Staley? Ring any bells?

Good luck. I really do wish the best for Trent, but I don't think it will be on an NBA roster.
Adam Thomas | 10:34 p.m. May 17, 2008
Ya I think one more year of college would help Trent because he doesn't have an outside shot which is key in the next level. He'll be playing ball in Europe somewhere next year
