Tie in | 1:34 p.m. May 22, 2008
Tracy Aviary has a bird talent show called Avian Idol. The bird they showed is the current Avian Idol and the tie in was to have the two "Idols" meet.

It's unfortunate that the bird did not share its talent on camera but it is a bird and understandably a bird is not always going to do what you want it to do.
A loss can be an asset | 3:56 p.m. May 22, 2008
A loss may have been the best for David Archuleta. He can continue to be a good role model to other youth and hopefully he will not be drawn into the world and culture of today's musical groups. Its best that he remained unspoiled and that he continue down the path his standards and parents have set for him. The fame of success can be a damning one to even those with the best of intentions. David could be a wonderful example to the world and to the pop culture by using his music to reach others, while pursuing his goals spiritually. His talent would be an assest as the Lord's represenative.
No 10 year contract | 4:09 p.m. May 22, 2008
Now he isn't owned by American idol for the next ten years. The first idol winner is still locked up in her contract. He actually has the option of serving a mission if he wants.

I love American Idol, But i was disapointed in how it went last night. Not just because Archuleta lost but because of what people have said. I LOVE David Archuleta with all my heart and wish for the best for him and i want everyone to know that him losing is probably a good thing. Now he can go on a mission and fight for what really matters in life. Life is short and we should all fulfill our dreams1 David Archuleta is my hero and millions of peoples' american idol!
what | 4:54 p.m. May 22, 2008
A bird, who did nothing, taking up part of the interview time of a winner like David A?
I'm a total fan of David A and yet I feel like 2nd place is great, to not be under the thumb of AI.
I'm older and I guess that's why David A, to me, is the better singer. I just don't like "rocker" music. David C was genuinely so cute with David A.
and that was nice.

Who are you people kidding? The church doesn't have enough security guards to send David on a mission. I know that is a great goal for him, maybe when he's part of a senior couple he can safely go, for now he should go out and enjoy the moment. He can influence more people with is voice than he ever could on a mission.

Yes david we look forward to your lifetime of music and your career. I do not think SLC is the audition city for next season! i think it's somewhere else- can't remember but, i really doubt it's salt lake!
Realistic????? | 5:59 p.m. May 22, 2008
who says archuleta would be serving in the US if he chose to serve a mission? i for one would be very disappointed in him if he didn't serve. he's already a huge role model for so many kids and if he gave up serving a mission for a career in music then i wouldn't consider him a good role model anymore. we can all be good examples in our every day lives and careers just like david has been doing but a mission is way more than just being a good example while singing nice songs. think how many young men he would be influencing if he didn't go and they thought it was OK to not go on a mission just because they had some opportunity of some kind to do whatever. i hope he goes.

You guys love Archuleta. Taylor Hicks was from here and
the newspapers didn't give him nearly this kind of coverage.

Dude I love David Archuleta!
He is such a hottie, and he had amazing talent.
I say he was much better than Cook.

David is 17! He knows more than ANYONE that he is closely approaching 19. If he chooses to go on a mission great! If not, great! Its HIS choice to go on a mission. Its pretty sad that some people are so wrapped up in tradition that they forget that its more important for a person to WANT to serve than for a person to go just go because its right. David is good guy if he chooses to serve or not. He CAN still be a role to your kids!! Its ok. People that don't serve are still blessed. Personally, its sad when you are in the mission field with another person that truely doesn't wamt to be there. It's ok. They're human and a mission isn't for everybody. Everybody can serve the Lord in their own way. I wish David the best in EVERYTHING. There's NO doubt that he is an awesome kid that he is truely blessed. He needs to enjoy this experiance and be a teenager. Nuff said.

Nobody is asking if David Cook is going back to bar tending..it's really nobodies business what they are going to do next. No one really knows what decisions they would make if they were in the same spot. School? career? Mission? It's not for us to judge.

Why did the Aviary Waste our money sending people to LA for this? ZAP tax wasted!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Realistic | 11:22 p.m. May 22, 2008
Who cares if he goes or not. It's not your choice. If he goes to be role model, then stay home. He should go because he has a desire to go and wants to do it. When I went, they let anyone go. Some were out there because their parents made them go or because they were getting something out of it, like a car. If your going for those reasons, stay home!!

Yes Idol auditions are coming to Salt Lake as one of the cities they will be auditioning in. Your comments made it sound like they only audtion in one city. Not hardly.. Maybe you should read all articles before commenting. Here is a comment directly from the DN. "American Idol" will be coming to Utah next year. The top-rated Fox program will hold auditions for the show's eighth season in Salt Lake City, according to executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.
Lythgoe told the Utah Fox affiliate Monday that the kids we got from Salt Lake City were the best, and because of that, I'm going to take 'American Idol' there next season.

Details on when and where the auditions will be held have yet to be released.
An Appreciative Observer | 11:54 a.m. May 23, 2008
There is more than one way to serve a mission! He can discuss it with his leaders and decide the best way to serve. He has been blessed with a great voice, but it's obvious he has worked and learned and practiced to make it what it is. As enjoyable as he is to listen, I was even more impressed with his grateful, humble attitude. I am sure that is also from his heart. I cheer him and also his parents. We had some performing children, and it's not easy. Those who didn't perform and get all the accolades are every bit as outstanding in their own way. A parent is constantly evening the playing field and observing how he or she can best assist each child in developing and succeeding. I believe David Archuleta recognizes that he's been blessed with a wonderful "gift" and we'll always be cheering for him. It is also a beautiful to treat others with the respect and sense of caring that he does!! Thank you, David, for enhancing my life.
