Here's my favorite made-up word: fict. It's a fictional thing that is presented as a fact. A fict usually leads people to believe it because it's presented with such seeming authority. For example, we all get e-mails with warnings of doom and gloom that we're supposed to send to all our friends. These are filled with ficts. It's especially bad when someone says "I checked this out on Snopes and it's true" and then you check it out on Snopes and it's not true.

A fict? You mean like Dan Brown's "DaVinci Code"? That was mostly a work of fict.
