Out of respect for the deceased and his family I will simply say that I disagree with the letter writer.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again.
It is a tragedy that this man's family must now live without him.
It also a tragedy that he spent the final years of his life lying, manipulating, and covering up for the Bush Administration.
"Best of humanity" he was not.

Tony came across like a nice guy. Like Scott McClellan, he sold out to evil. Being Bush's mouthpiece will always taint his career.
You could use this as a learning moment for your children.

Leave it to the all-loving, all-compassionate, all-understanding, all-open minded, all-wise liberals in this country to spit on the grave of a man who died of cancer at the young of 52.
Reminds me of Democratic Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone's funeral, back in 2002. His family only let one Republican come (Trent Lott) and he was booed out of the auditorium. After which Wellstone's sons turned their messages into political stump speeches.
Even after a tragic death, Democrats never waste the opportunity to smear their political opponents.

When the letter writer says Tony Snow is the best example of humanity, we have to attack that hyperbole with truth. Best of humanity? Try Desmond Tutu. Tony Snow was despicable for spreading lies for the Bush Administration. Just because he died young does not change that fact.

Tony Snow was nothing more than a shill for the Bushies. What ever he once was he lost when he sold out to the bushies

I can't believe these nasty, hateful comments. This sort of hyperpartisanship is the lowest of the low. this what we have come to in this country.
I have spent years of my life as a political professional. One thing I learned in my years in Washington is NEVER to impune someone's motives. Most people in Washington are decent, sincere people who are trying to do a good job of serving their country. No matter how much I may disagree with some of them, I know that they are generally sincere, committed people.
Just because we have some disagreements on the best way to solve a problem, does not mean that the other person is evil. In fact most of these people are really great and are often good friends with others who sit across the aisle. There are many people in Washington who I disagree with, but who I have no problem being friends with.
The problem with these Professional Bush Haters is that they have NO experience in Washington and they have no idea what they are talking about. They just sit at their computers and spew HATE and IGNORANCE.
Thank goodness these people aren't in charge of anything.

To all my fellow "liberals", who apparently know nothing about being liberal, didn't your mother ever teach you that if you can't say something nice about a person, especially a deceased person, don't say anything at all. Have some class (Oops, too late) and keep your negative comments for those who have the power and ability to fight back or respond - if you dare.
To Cats | 8:07 a.m. July 20, 2008
You hit the nail on the head. The venom of those that hate all things associated with Pres. Bush is overwhelming. These people are haters pure and sinple. People can have different opinions and be quite sincere. The fact that to some people the world is so one sided demonstrates their lack of education and understanding of others.
SteveD | 8:10 a.m. July 20, 2008
Bush haters are blinded by their ideology. Tony Snow was a great man and if any of you liberal ideologues can tell me just one lie he told for the Bush administration (without lying yourself) I will retract.
Example, please | 8:17 a.m. July 20, 2008
Alright, Sue, could you cite an example of how Tony Snow was "the best of humanity"? I don't doubt you, its just that my mind is drawing a blank.

While I disagreed with much that Tony Snow believed was best for our country, he did seem like a kind and decent man. I think it is tragic that a young husband and father is now gone. We really should show a little more compassion towards one another. We are more similar than not. It is focusing on our disagreements that causes so much pain and suffering in the world.

I have heard the "well intentioned" argument up and down for a long time and I am sick and tired of it!
Being "well intentioned" does not make up for immoral and unethical actions. If you lie and manipulate to accomplish political motives that is WRONG! You can not hide behind the "well intentioned" defense, because it means nothing.
And by the way, I do have Washington experience, and I also no quite a bit about history and political science, seeing as how they are my field of choice.
Compromise, disagreement, etc. are part of the political life and, while frustrating, are necessary for the process. But manipulating the truth, distorting reality, covering up crimes, and lying about it the entire time are NOT!
If you're really happy with who is in charge then you deserve what you get. But the rest of us want our country back.

He lied for the bush regime. It's a dirty job but it pays well. Why does that make him 'a great man'?
Gus Talwynd | 11:23 a.m. July 20, 2008
Although there is certainly a disconnect between Tony Snow's role with the Bush administration and how he was as a person, his brief role as press secretary should not be the sole measure of the man. One must be more mindful of the man and not what he may have said in fulfulling the requirements of his job. As a pundit, he often took positions critical of the administration he came to serve. We will never know what was really in his heart.
In a statement reflect on the former press secretary's death, Keith Olbermann remarked that Snow "was an optimistic, funny, and courageous man who could set aside his politics and inspire others to do the same. It might surprise many at all political points, but while we could not have disagreed more on policy, we were in frequent contact, even during his days as Press Secretary, even as I was criticizing his work and he was — in his own words — yelling at the screen as he watched."
If Tony Snow can be see as the complex and human person he was, perhaps others would be be less harsh in their assessment.

Just one lie? The man was a master fabricator and propagandist.
Mission Accomplished: "You know that the mission accomplished banner was put up by members of the USS Abraham Lincoln, and the president, on that very speech, said just the opposite, didn’t he?"
Valerie Plame: "She wasn’t a covert agent. She wasn’t compromised."
Political Purge at the {In}Justice Dept: “It’s pretty clear that these things are based on performance and not on sort of attempts to do political retaliation"
Need we go on?

To "TO CATS:" Your remarks make it difficult for me to believe that you really have any serious experience in Washington. Those who do understand that what I said before. We respect our colleagues on the other side of the aisle even though we disagree with them.
Maybe you could use a little more "experience."

It's amzing you hear so much drivel about a dead comedian whose goal was to attack institutions an drag everydown with him,
but you hardly hear about the death of a truly good man whose goal was to encourage, inspire, and uplift others.
Boy is this world upside down.

How naive. George Carlin redefined comedy and wasn't afraid to speak the truth. Snow sought to uplift people through deliberate lies.

Nice try. The "Mission Accomplish was in fact printed by the White House. You bought in to Fox damage control.
If the White Hose thought it was illegal outing
Valerie Plame, why did the White House engage in a over up?
The Senate is investigation the firing in the Justice Department for wrong doing. If Bush did nothing wrong he could cooperate so we can move on?

Tony Snow was a good man. I am glad he is out of pain and suffering. I pray for this good man's family.
I am sorry there are those on here who can only feel hate and can only talk of lies and deception. It must be what your life is made of and you therefore think that is how everyone lives. Well, not everyone lives by lies. Some people make every effort every day to live by integrity, ethics and morals. Tony Snow was one of those. He tried to get all you embracers of lies to see and hear truth, but you would not see it or feel it. More's the pity. Interesting, you want truth, but you can only see the truth you make up.
Furthermore, you all disgust and sicken me to talk so ugly about a man so recently deceased. Can you imagine how they would feel if the family read your hatefilled nasty comments? Can you imagine how your families would feel if this were you? How would you feel if people talked about your loved one this way?
You ought to be ashamed, but I doubt you can feel real remorse... pathetic...

Thanks to: Cats, Mike Richards, Human Being, "the truth". "spit on the grave", and anyone else who was kind about Tony Snow:
My great gratitude to you for having the courage to say right things, live by principles and do good. I really appreciated your comments. Unfortunately we will not change the minds of these mean spirited, nasty and completely misinformed, misdirected people. Nevertheless, we will keep trying.

I hope Tony Snow's widow and children never see any of these hateful comments. I did not think I would ever have to come here to read such hate of a human being who tried to live a good life and be a loving Father and Husband. Based on less than two years in the white house certainly it did not cover the 53 years of his life. I wonder if some of these hater's ever saw one of his press conferences. It stands to reason that if you hate someone so much you would turn off your TV. Could you just be following the crowd of hate mongers?

Listen to the lefties go off with all their sad-sack, half-wit, pathetic tired old accusations that they think will somehow come true one day if they just repeat it to themselves over and over enough. Human Being and SteveD are exactly right on this topic.
The left has not persued a bigger farce then the Valerie Plame fiasco. They even went after the wrong guy to lay the blame on. If you are going to make a big deal out of nothing, at least try to get it right. The "political purge" at the Justice Dept. is an even bigger non issue. If the Bush Administration had released even half the "prosecuters" that the Clinton Administration released for no reason, then maybe we would have somthing to talk about.
None of us are perfect. Not this administration, not the previous one, not myself or you or Tony Snow. But Tony was a good guy, who probably took a pay cut to accept that position with the White house. That demonstrates a certain amount of selflisness, and an attitude of service, which many of us would not share, given the same circumstances.
