Sloan Hater, eh? | 3:52 a.m. July 20, 2008
Even though Sloan is one of the most winning coaches in the NBA, a small minority of Jazz fans with some vendetta want him out of here. If you could choose 5 coaches, maybe even 10 that could coach the Jazz to an NBA championship, then I want to see your list.
Oh, also the Jazz are one of a few NBA teams to have consistently sold out their arena 2 years in a row.

School teachers, bus drivers and any number average Joes get criticized everyday for not doing their best. But pro basketball players get criticized in the media, in public. Maybe it's the price they have to pay for making more in a single year than most people will ever see in their lifetimes - for playing a game. Jerry Sloan has the right and the obligation to criticize players who don't give it their all. He's been there and done that.

The author does not understand what it takes to be an NBA coach, and also assumes that only negativity comes from Sloan.
Perhaps the writers don't think it of value to note when he speaks positively, which he often does.
As someone else said, let's see your list of coaches who could do better than him.

Unlike Phil Jackson, Sloan never inherited a team with all-star players. Sloan turned average players into all-stars and olympians. Unfortunately, he hasn't won a championship yet but he will this year or next.
Sloan is old-school so he believes in HARDWORK and DEDICATION. Those characteristics are hard to find nowaday.

Daily credit and east coast are right. I'd actually say that Sloan is the best coach in the league, excepting MAYBE Gregg Popovich (who still has Tim Duncan). Phil Jackson? Please. All he does is coach the best players ever and get up and whistle once in awhile. And the "triangle offense"? That's just "pass the ball to Michael Jordan" which was then evolved into "pass the ball to Kobe Bryant". Wow, what a genius.
Seriously, I really think the Jazz are among the poorest run organizations in the league but have the best coach. Case in point, remember in like '02 when preseason people were saying that Jazz team was perhaps the worst NBA team ever? With Matt Harpring as the go-to guy on offense? Sloan still managed to win more than forty games that season!
I'm so sick of Jazz fans ripping on Sloan and saying "we need a change". As far as I am concerned, Sloan can coach this team as long as he wants.

IF you had two of 50 greatest players of all-time,
how could he not win a lot games.
The only players he has "developed" were players like stockton who were already willing to work hard and practice long.
A truly great coach would be able motivate those not so inclined. That is sign of a great coach.
all sloan has offers those who do not things his way are profanity and name-calling.
And lets not even discuss his actual game time coaching.
Or how he make adjustments at the speed of a glacier.
Great coach. NO.
A system that allows you win games with lesser talent but never win a championship even with great players. After twenty-five years that part seems obvious.

Great players? | 6:52 p.m. July 20, 2008
I love Karl Malone but he is probably the most overrated player ever. Best power forward of all time? No. So what if Sloan yells at his players, it's because that player is soft. He can't help that Andrei doesn't like playing hard unless it says "Russia" on his jersey.
As for actual game time coaching, you realize the Jazz lead the league in efficiency from called plays on an out of bounds, right? That sounds like good coaching to me.
As for a system that allows him to win with lesser talent, that's exactly what he does. Then those players are shown to be extremely vulnerable in the playoffs because they don't have a killer instinct. Again, he can't help it if in the last game against LA, no one except Deron Williams was hitting any shots.
Furthermore, when a player of the caliber of Williams says Sloan is the best coach in the league, I'm inclined to agree. Though he probably says that because he likes to win.
Lastly, remember when the Jazz got the finals against THE BEST PLAYER EVER? And how at pretty much every position except point guard the Bulls had better players.

time for Sloan to go, even his young bride can't change his old ways. The Jazz need a new coach that will build up and compliment the players. To say Sloan is the best coach in the league is a few peoples view, he hasn't won the title ever. New Coach please

Steve, these men are paid millions of dollars not to suck, which they do because the Jazz front office has no idea what it is doing. Give a large, multi-year contract to a guy who can barely get off the bench in Detroit? That's Mehmet Okur. Hopefully Jerry can fix this latest draft blunder of Kosta Koufas when CDR was still on the board like he's been doing with Deron Williams (and anyone who thought Deron Williams was justified at third is dreaming. He wasn't even the best player in his own backcourt at Illinois)
