It was a GREAT weekend to go to movies. Mamma Mia! was a thoroughly entertaining romp and a reason to dance in the aisles. Dark Knight should win the Best Picture Oscar among other awards.

So apparently Sunday doesn't count in weekend box office? Just wondering since the article came out and it's not even Sunday evening on the East coast.

I caught the midnight showing of Space Chimps. Brilliant film. Complex, witty, and engaging. I was the only person in the theater and I felt like a millionaire! I was Howard Hughes for a night, but with a show about monkeys in space.

Please do not take children under the age of 16 to the Dark Night, it has brutal, raw, violent, material that is not appropriate for those under 18. Especially those sensative to child-abuse and sensless horrible murdur.
Disturbing movie | 5:18 p.m. July 20, 2008
Dark Knight is not for those just looking for a good fun action movie. Its way dark and doesn't leave you with a happy feeling thats for sure. Oh and i saw some parents with a small child in the row in front of me. Taking a three year old to see that movie is ridiculous. Nobody under 16 should see it let alone little kids. Seriously if you can't get a baby sitter DON'T GO!!!

The Dark Night was probably the best movie I have ever seen. Very well done. Taking little kids wouldn't be the best idea, but maybe it would toughen them up a little bit.

With ALL the media hype, and free PR, from late night talk shows, it may of made $155.3 million, however it was WAY TO LONG OF A MOVIE plus it had brutal, raw, violent, material, that is not appropriate for those under 18 and rated R, in my book to, plus it did have action in it, no story, just a lot of sensless horrible murder. I think it sucked personaly. Plus had to run out to have a smoke several times, seemed like it went on forever to. I should of wated till it came out on DVD and VHS.

Most calendars consider Sunday to be the first day of the week. Saturday is the seventh day according to Jewish history and the old testament.

Batman was definately interesting and attention grabbing, but the happy feeling was not there at all. See it if you want, but I won't be seeing it again.
Sad | 6:53 p.m. July 20, 2008
It is a sad commentary on our society that a movie of this kind can take in $155 million in a weekend. Violence is all too prevalent in today's world, and we needn't see more of it on the big screen. The cost of living is rising, yet people will spend their hard-earned money to support the producers and actors who participate in the making of a film such as this. I can't help but think of the real good that could be done in the world with $155 million.

This movies was phenomenal. Disagreeing whole heartedly with all the negative comments on this discussion board, from the one saying it lacked plot and theme to those saying it's senseless violence. You people should stick with disney cartoons.
Course, I must remind myself. I am reading the deseret news here. Sorry that Batman is more universally appealing than Gods Army.

I'll take my kids to whatever movie I want to, and I don't want to go to this one. We went out and played frisbee and tag at the park and got some exercise.
Why so Serious...? | 11:00 a.m. July 21, 2008
Agreed with whatever! That movie was excellent! The performance of the actors, the gritty story, and the tense hope for human nature made the movie easily the best I have seen this summer. Dark? Yes. But what exactly did you expect? If you saw Batman Begins, you were prepared for this. If you didn't know what to expect, then why so serious..? You obviously expected a happy feel-good movie. Either way, I loved it.

Did you have the same reaction to the "Lord of the Rings" movies by any chance (complaining about time length)? Just wondering. I wasn't lucky enough to see this movie this weekend (it was sold out on IMAX and so saw "Mamma Mia!" instead), but my sister saw it and she had the same reaction to it as she did the "Lord of the Rings" movies... that it wasn't long enough, that it could've gone on longer.
Maybe you should drop the smoking habit (it is bad for you after all), sounds like it's quite an issue if you're "having" to leave a movie several times for a smoke. Can't go 2 hours and 40 minutes without? Better hope you never fly to NYC or someplace farther. ;)
Also, I can't imagine it being so bad that nobody under 18 should see it... or under 16 (for those of you who have listed that age limit). It all depends on the teen/child... some can handle these things, others can't.
I myself can't wait to see this movie, I plan to try again at the IMAX theater Saturday.

Steve - Congrats to Mamma Mia! | 3:35 p.m. July 21, 2008
Congrats to "Mamma Mia!" for managing to set a box office record despite the suicidal opening weekend choice (they should've picked another weekend rather than going up against Batman). Good to hear it's the best opener for a movie musical! Imagine what it could've done on a normal weekend.
I saw it and being an ABBA fanatic (who has seen the stage play version twice) I of course loved it. Man can Meryl Streep sing great! If you're an ABBA fan don't miss this.

Only American calendars that I'm aware of. All calanders I've seen from Europe start with Monday and end with Sunday (which makes much more sense since Saturday and Sunday are called "the weekEND").
