Are these last years rankings, or did anyone even attempt to take a risk and change it up? Half of these teams won't even be in the top 25, Layton included (or not included if you will).
Preseason rankings mean nothing | 7:48 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
These rankings mean nothing. Give it three weeks and let's see how things look.
MtView | 7:50 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Your previews had them picked third in the region, but these rankings have them above Orem. Doesn't make sense.

Why would you want to worry about preseason rankings that Aragon puts out. This is now the Region 6 paper. Hard to see any other teams. Don't worry just have your boys play hard and leave it all on the field.. Don't worry about AA.
Anonymous | 8:13 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
i know preseason dont matter but alta and bingham being ahead of Timpview??? thats just reduculous...noone in the state can beat timpview NOONE timpview should be a top 25 team in the country
SLCguy | 8:23 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Newspaper Theory 101

1) Of COURSE these are preseason rankings, they are a semi-educated guess at best (similar to College)

2) NO one agrees with EVERY prediction, therefore we then discuss it in a manner of "did you see where the Deseret News ranked so and so" (that is desireable for the Deseret News BTW)

3)These rankings DON'T matter at all, (unlike College) they don't determine seedings for the State playoffs or limit which teams actually make said playoffs. They are a tool to generate excitement and focus the casual reader on games that should/may be more important or more interesting. (see Cottonwood vs. Pineview week 3)

4) Finally AA makes up this list on his own about about much as I get to decide what I do in a normal day. (My wife thinks I should do this, the kids all have their input, that minor detail of a job has its' requirements, followed by the dog needs to go for a walk and we need this or that at the grocery store before dinner) Get it? A group project
outlook | 8:44 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
i like reading the outlook for the bingham miners you read it and it says how dominate they are......so why are they listed 2nd hahaha will just see how everyone performs in a few weeks tho
PLEASE | 8:57 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
schedule a game between Alta and Timpview! I'm really getting tired of hearing it! let's get it settled. But then, no matter the outcome, it'd be "well that was only one game and the Ref's cheated, lets go best of 7"
Cache Valley | 9:14 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
All three High-Schools from Cache Valley are in the top 15. I guess we know to coach winning high-school football here just not at the college ranks. I think Mtn. Crest might have a shot against USU
BHS | 9:29 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Hey Anonymous lets see timpview play bingham if noone can beat them i seem to recall down at camp Bingham took it to timpview. TIMPVIEW= OVERATED
Tuffy Parker | 9:37 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I have to agree with Anonymous 8:13, Timpview really should be at the top of the ranking. Granted, they are 4A rather than 5A (as are Alta and Bingham) but with the machine that they have going and the significant number of kids with experience, they really deserve the top spot until they rack up a loss.
Hey Cache Valley | 10:01 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
That is just mean, of COURSE MC would have a shot against USU....... ;-)
JT | 10:02 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
watch out for Orem this year. You will all be surprised at what they will do.
To Timp Lover | 10:12 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Hey FYI to all the Timp lovers--- Alta tried to schedule a game with them this year and Timpview wanted nothing to do with it. Thats a fact. They didnt want to schedule it--- so until they are willing to play the big boys--- let the sit at what could be.
RE: BHS | 10:28 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Hey BHS, you must not have talked to the Bingham players about the Price Camp this summer in which Timpview scored and Bingham did not!
No way Tuffy | 10:44 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Unless Timp plays in 5-A they should not be # 1 ever. They stay in 4 A to try to keep a winning streak. They would get beat more in 5-A where the competition is much tougher and bigger.
Timpview should be #3 | 10:48 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Timpview should NOT be #1. 5A is much tougher. Consider this, 4A v 5A all star games have been absolute blowouts. I don’t think any of the D1 guys play for either team, either way 4A has not even scored the last few years. The 5A teams absolutely smoke the 4A teams when the play. Timpview is as good as the 5A teams, they went 3-0 last year. They beat PG 14-0 in a pretty tight game. PG was an average 5A team that was blown out by 20+ by both AF and Davis. Timpview beat Lone Peak 27-6, but Lone Peak was 2-9. Did you see what Bingham did to Davis and Lone Peak? BLOW OUT. Timpview’s closest game of the season was against another average 5A 6-6 Spanish Fork team 30-28. Alta killed SF 44-7 without Shakerin. Spanish Fork scored when the Alta starters were already in street clothes. I saw the playoff game they had against Layton. Not even close, 42-7. SF looked like they were in a different league. Keep in mind Layton barely crossed midfield against Alta in the 5A title game. This after Alta won the real championship the week before. Alta #1
Timp Fan | 11:16 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I love Timp. We are king of the 4A, but Bingham and Alta scare us to death. Why would we schedule them when we know we would get beat? That is why we polietly declined.
Hey Anonymous | 11:30 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
WOW! An articulate person such as yourself, really knows how to impress us with your opinions. A very thought out and persuasive comment. Thanks!
HS football fan | 11:39 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Not sure how Timpview would do against Alta or Bingham this year; all I know is that after watching all 3 teams mulitiple times last year, Timpview was the best team and it wasn't even close. I'm not sure Alta or Bingham would have even scored on Timpviews D last year, maybe a long Sorenson FG but that would have been about it.
Who cares!!! | 11:40 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Get over who the best team in the state is. Alta, Bingham, and Timpview have proven their dominance the last few years. Give all of these school credit. I don't know if Timpview would beat Alta or Bingham, but I am sure it would be a very close game. Good luck to all of these big teams, but I hope they are all beaten this year at state (very unlikely though), so all of you people that want to relive your HS football years can get over yourselves. There is more to life than who is the best football team in the state. You ruin the sport for these young athletes.
'06-'07 Timp | 11:43 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Timpview had loaded teams in '06 and '07, which I believe could have taken on, and more than likely beaten Alta, Bingham, or anyone else in the state, for that matter.
The '08 team, has some vulnerabilities, but we'll see, as the season plays out.
Timpview fan... | 12:04 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
my opinion is this... 4a/5a doesn't matter.. Timpview is an elite program and is in the same ranks as Alta/Bingham.

With that said, I do think they purposely schedule weak.. Don't know why they do that, but they do.

So, it's hard to say which is the best team. I think Timpview was last year, and I think Bingham is this year.

In the end, I guess it doesn't matter.
Re: who cares | 12:35 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
How do you know that most of these posts aren't from HS kids? Either way, the comment board is for just that... comments. If you don't like the comments, then don't read them
Cache Valley | 12:37 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Mountain Crest above Logan and Skyview ? How do you figure ? MC was 3rd best team in the valley last year and will be again this year. They only got to Rice due to an incredibly lucky draw in the the brackets. Not a MC hater but they are not that good.
haha | 1:40 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
its funny to read adults arguing with highschoolers about grammar and whatnot, really brightens my day.
To Cache Valley | 1:53 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
The Mustangs have consistently proven to be not only one of the best teams in the valley, but in the state as well. You can't say Mountain Crest was the 3rd best team in the valley last year, because they didn't play Logan. I guarentee that if they played Logan they would win. And just because Sky View has two good years in 20, does not make them a top program. MC, will put SV back where they belong this year, below the Stangs!
Cats Football | 1:58 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
As much as I hate to say it Mountain Crest is hands down the best team in Cache Valley this year. They are loaded while SV and Logan aren't as good as last years teams.
anonymous | 2:16 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I think Fremont should be #1!
Timp schedule | 2:18 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Timp has kept the same schedule for many years unless they planned a trip to Hawaii, in which they did for a couple of seasons. Alta wanted to schedule a pre-season game with Timpview, but Timpview simply did not have an opening. The teams coaches they play in the pre-season know each other pretty well and only want to honor the schedule year in and year out. It is as simple as that.
Doogs | 3:07 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Davis High will never win another football championship. They are cursed.
SKYLINE | 3:53 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Timpview needs to grow some. Stacking your schedule with TOOELE and avoiding the ALTA, makes you nothing more than cowards. I attended 6 Timpview games and 3 Alta games and my take is Alta was by far the best team in the state last year. They had three Alisa's at backer, and those Anderson brothers were in a league of their own. Aragon is right. Alta is the number 1 team until someone BEATS them....talk is cheap, want to make a statement?.....do it on the football field! its smashmouth time...lets get it on!
to HS Football fan | 4:43 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Spanish Fork put up 28 on that great Timpview D, what do you think Layton, Bingham, AF or Bingham would have done? By the way I don't think SF got a first down on Alta and Layton's starters. Nice try.
What are you talking about? | 4:47 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Timpview HAS to play Tooele in much the same way Alta HAS to play Brighton THEY ARE IN THE SAME REGION.

dUH!

Alta is the #1 team in 5A. Nothing more. Alta will not repeat, their best group of kids was last year.
To SKYLINE | 4:53 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Tooele is a region team. Timpview doesn't have a choice. Whether Alta or Timpview is the better team is hard to say, but a game between them would be a fun one to watch!
Re: SKYLINE | 4:56 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I agree with you 100%. Timpview should just go independent like Notre Dame. Then they could stop playing region games against teams like Tooele so they could concentrate on playing teams like Alta.

Tooele's in Timpview's region. Get a clue.
To Skyline at 3:53 | 5:06 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Get your facts straight, Tooele is in Timpview's region, they have to play them- DUH! I am in no way a Timpview lover, it bugs me that they always win, but you can't take away what they have done, facts prove they are good, and all that matters at the end of the day is they scoreboard. Timpview would beat Alta, and Bingham... they would beat they best players from both of those teams.
MC Fan | 5:11 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I watched Timpview dismantle MC last year in the semis. If Timpview is that good again I don't think any team in the state has a chance. I think MC will be the best team in Cache Valley this year and possible go far in the playoffs but don't expect them to challenge Timpview should they meet again. I think Timpview is great, but it makes me wonder how that many good kids just happen to grow up in Timpviews school boundries. It is just amazing that all those kids live that close to the school. It must be something in the water.
Yeah | 5:12 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
You guys dont know what your saying timpview's winning streak is gonna be over. To many holes to fill. Big X cant play the whole o-line by himself.
Re: to HS football fan | 5:47 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
That game was 30 - 0 for Timpview in the 4th quarter before PG scored 28 pts to make it appear close. After that game, their defense allowed just over 5 pts per game over an 11 game period. I'm not a fan of either school, but from what I saw last year they were far superior to the team from Alta. Too bad that the HS football in Utah can't match up the 4A/5A winner.. Would be a lot of fun.
to: Cats football (mc fan) | 6:21 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
You are obviously from the south end of cache valley so dont hide it and say "cats sports" Sky View has 14 returners this season. these rankings dont mean a thing. Sky View is always underated and goes deep into state. bountiful high will be the other tough team up north in 4A. MC will get hammered by sky view just like last year. Sky view has some of the best speed in the state and speed dominates. MC WILL NOT be the best team in cache valley.
Pirates | 6:39 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I don't see Cyprus ? is it a misprint?
You must be kidding | 6:54 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Pine View - down in St.George are about to be humbled big time when L.A's Dominguez pays a visit to Southern Utah next month.
Layton? | 8:01 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I thought Layton had the biggest mouths in the league according to everyone on these posts...haven't seen one yet...just one smack talk to start it all off...

I won't say anymore though...just had to prove a point to many that say that...
timpanogos | 8:03 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
wheres timpanogos!!!!!! they should be number 3 in the state. They had twelve guys that ran under 4.5. They are known around utah county as the justice league!
Cats Football | 8:28 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
To:Cats football (mc fan),

I am 100% from the north end of the valley and went to SV but I can call a spade a spade without any problems. You, on the other hand are up in the night if you think that SV will hammer MC let alone beat them. As for always being underrated and going deep at state?? Uh, 2 years of good teams does not make up for the past 25 years but nice try. SV will have to fight to finish 3rd in region 5. Count on it!!
logan | 8:42 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
logan should win 3-a very easy with that manning guy at quarterback
To Cats football (South end) | 8:50 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
100% eh? speed is what dominates football. and sky view has speed in every spot. from offensive tackles to jd falslev. mountain crest does work hard in the weight room, but they have ZERO speed. that is why sky view will finish first in region 5.
Re:You must be kidding | 9:09 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
When Dominguez (Compton) plays PV in a few weeks They won't even know how to act. They will come up from LA to the fresh mountain air and the scenery and be completely out of their element. PV will handle them just fine.
timpview stacks them cheap | 9:23 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
I agree with Skyline. Timpview plays nobodies (Tooele) all year and avoids Alta for obvious reasons...until they play Bingham/Alta and beat them, you are never going to get respect.....outside of Tooele County! Timp is a joke!
