Big deal - one loser endorsing another.
Bob in line | 5:16 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Mitt just lost major points in my book. Chaffetz is a con man and now all the big name GOP leaders must endorse him. Call me a Dead Dog Republican because I'd rather vote for a dead dog before I'd vote for Chaffetz.
Romney will never get my support for another thing. Not even dog catcher.

Bob,
Perhaps Mitt is just smarter than you. How well do you know Jason Chaffetz. I have emailed him questions, called him on the phone, asked him questions in person, criticized him in person. Is he perfect? No. Is he the best running, yes. Vote for Jason Chaffetz.

Romney is supporting the best candidate for the 3rd district. That shouldn't be a surprise.
"It's an honor to have the support of Governor Romney," Chaffetz said. "He is admired in Utah for his commitment to public service, his exceptional business and leadership skills, and his efforts to strengthen America's families. His support will mean a lot to the people of Utah and for that I am very grateful."
One more reason to vote for Jason.

I love Romney, think he'd make a great vp (well, a better p, but hey) and has endorsed a great guy for Congress. Chaffetz will represent me and my views very well and IF he does not, well, elections are in two years. Bob, don't worry. You can always vote for the guy Jesus would vote for.

Mitt just made a good move. Jason is a great person to be running for 3rd district.
Go Mitt! | 7:59 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Go Jason! I sure hope the two of them have the chance to work together in DC. I know Jason Chaffetz will be there - I just hope Mitt will be too. good for Jason for being endorsed by such a well-respected guy.

I have always voted republican in national elections - but not this year. I think Chaffetz fits too well into the Utah Republican Party - he has all the traits we see in our local leadership - he's arrogant - he thinks he has the election all tied up in a silver-lined bag; he has all the republican leaders falling in line behind him - like that's a big surprise! Well, I've read about Spencer Bennion and I've emailed him and received thoughtful responses. I've also read what Jason has to say - I think if Nancy Pelosy came up with a rational way to solve any issue, Jason would vote against it just because a democrat came up with it. On the other hand, I believe Spencer would not do the knee-jerk reaction thing, but would react as a Utah representative should react. He won't vote for gay marriage; his stance on abortions is exactly in line with my church's teachings. If he opposed Pelosi on an issue, it would carry much more weight than it would if Jason opposed it. After thinking things through, I believe I'll pass on Jason, and vote for Spencer this year.

I voted for Chaffetz. However, now that I notice who is on his growing list of endorsers, I'm not so such about him anymore.
I know the party has to stick together, but to my way of thinking endorsements by Huntsman, Romney, Bennett and Hatch are red flags.

so "sure" about him anymore

Good ol' Mitt, the quintessential politician! The 3rd district needs Jim Noorlander, a quintessential statesman. You have a choice in the 3rd district; you just have to actually look around to see it.

"There is no one more dedicated to Utah than Jason"??? Give me a break, Mitt! The folks most dedicated to Utah are those who work tirelessly on behalf of this state, and not for themselves. But then again, Mitt and Jason probably don't relate to those folks.
Jason's dedication to this state means when he is in a position of authority, he will ignore the people and do as the power-brokers instruct.
Spencer Bennion is no prize either. So, I think that once again, the 3rd District will suffer from arrogance and neglect.

Skeptic,
what did you think about Spencer's idea that Jesus would vote for him? Pretty silly if you ask me. That has been picked up in Poland, England and around the country. Is this the kid of rep you want? I hope Bennion does well with his book. I am voting for Jason. I think Mitt has class supporting Jason.

Mitt is endorsing Chaffetz because Chaffetz is a liberal, just like Mitt Romney.
I'm voting for John Noorlander BECAUSE I VOTE FOR CONSERVATIVES.
Funny... Romney voted for Paul Tsongas in 1992 and Chaffetz campainged for Michael Dukakis.
Romney and Chaffetz - two liberal peas in a pod.

I'm annoyed by people who see the world in black and white. No one is all good or all evil. If a politician's views most closely reflect yours, then vote for him. If he doesn't stay to true to those beliefs, then vote him out.
This is not rocket science!
I'm not voting against someone who shares my views just because some guy on a message board labeled him liberal or right wing or any other meaningless name.
Know your own views. Know the views of those you vote for. And hold people accountable for the positions they take once elected. It's not hard!

I didn't vote for Ron Paul, and I am not voting for Noorlander. I voted for Mitt and I am voting for Jason Chaffetz.
Stewart | 11:24 a.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Tai, I know both Chaffetz and Noorlander personally, and have spent considerable time talking to both of them. By the way it is "Jim" Noorlander, not John. I voted for Jim last time because Rep. Cannon was on the ballot for the republicans, and the democrats only offer up "cannon fodder"(pun intended)for the 3rd District in the general election. This year I get to vote for someone not against someone. I have no problem with Jim Noorlander and wish him well. I would be really happy to see him get more votes than Bennion.

Thanks to a good neighbor who moved to Utah from out of state and to the Internet, I have found a candidate that I feel good about voting for. That candidate is none other than Jim Noorlander. My new neighbor helped me to realize just how far afield the GOP leadership in Utah has strayed from the platform it gives lip service to.

I hate to interrupt Arc's love fest with chaffetz, as his posts account for almost one third of the total posts for this article. (Plus all the other ones when you use other names.) I wish my dog were as blindly loyal as you chaffetz sycophants are! I am curious if you are so devoted because you want chaffetz to take you with him on his next female entertainment junket to Australia? Or have you not asked him about that yet? In fact since you have called, emailed, and asked him so many questions while you are asking him about high priced Aussie entertainment, perhaps you could also ask why he stopped talking about his concentration camps during the primary. The answer he won’t give you is the truth, which is that is what delegates wanted to hear, but not voters. Your knight in shinning armor is a mere con-artist looking for the next mark.

what a load..
good name
Yes I asked him about working in Australia and rumors about that. I am fine with the answer. re: tents, remember I said that you can watch/listen from 3:30 to 5:00 minutes on the convention speech on his jason for congress website and you can see it for your self.
No, I haven't been posting on the desnews, under an other name. I realize their name system is not as good as the sltrib, ksl, or herald, but I have not abused it. The last time I went to Australia, I took my wife, thank you.
Why do you think Jason is a con? I certainly do not believe that to be the case, nor does Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman, former business associates that Jason represented in Australia, Bennett, Hatch, etc. etc.
What makes you such a know it all? I never said Jason was perfect, just the best running.

Why have the moderators allowed so many comments that are pro-Chaffetz and almost none that are critical of Chaffetz? I'm on a small email group for Republicans (not right-wingers) and many have noted that they are not getting posted.
It would seem that the Deseret News is simply in love with Chaffetz. Odd because they allowed any clap trap trash that could be thrown at Chris Cannon. Now suddenly they are not going to allow critical thoughts towards Chaffetz.
And Arc has no credibility at all. Someone said he is in love with Chaffetz and I completely agree.
The group I'm on is throwing out a new caucus in the Republican Party to counterbalance the Republican Assembly. It is called the Dead Dog Republicans. As in they'd rather vote for a Dead Dog than the extreme right wing, throw'em all in concentration camps Chaffetz types.
If they actually form this group count me in as a charter member of the Dead Dog Republicans, cause it's true.

Curious,
Perhaps this is the same Deseret News that wasn't pro Jason Chaffetz prior to the primary. This is the same Deseret News that has not run the story about Jason's Democratic challenge thinking the savior would vote for him and not Jason.
I have no problem with the Deseret News printing the story that Mitt Romney has officially endorsed Jason Chaffetz for 3rd district US Rep.
Romney wrote of Chaffetz, "I know Jason personally and have had the pleasure of working with him. I can say, unequivocally, that there is no one more dedicated to Utah than Jason."

Oh my heck. Give it a break. You dead dog guys are really just one person aren't you - James, smooth sailing, or whatever your real name is when you're in acting in the Republican party leadership. So. First of all, you can't even get "your" guys name right. His name is Bennion Spencer, not the other way around. The easiest way to remember it is BS.
So the Des News trashed Chaffetz up to the primary and for a good while after and now they publish an endorsement and suddenly they're in a love fest with Chaffetz? Arc DOES have good questions - where are the posts about Jesus' endorsing BS? I've checked out all the bigger Dem blogs and websites in the state - nary a mention. So go on blindly following a guy who thinks Christ would endorse him while I vote for some real change in the 3rd district. And no, I'm not arc.

Rolling..
It is sad that their are one or two people that become so bitter that they will assasinate anyone's character that defends the person they hate.
I voted for Jason Chaffetz, even when most of the GOP was not supporting him. Now that he has won the primary, most of the GOP leadership is now supporting Jason. I was impressed with Huntsman for staying out of endorsing someone in a primary prior to the primary. He is sporting Jason. Mitt is supporting Jason. After B.S. recent blunder, I haven't figured out why he is still running. I am sure B.S. is a really great guy, but it sure leaves the perception he is running just to get publicity for his new books.

My last comment to you was not implying that you were in that category, but because there was someone that was actually making sense. Mitt's endorsement is good news for just about anyone, with the exception of one democrat author.
