Didn't the US beat Japan just a couple days ago. Why were we playing them again for the gold medal. If it is double elimination the US should still be playing. I also thought that the US beat Japan after pool play had ended. Could someone please explain. With the way that the US has dominated, isn't this one of the greatest upsets of all time?

no one is going to remember how good the USA softball team was, but they will remember how the choked in the last game most of them will ever play
Stupid format | 12:55 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Why does Japan get to lose once and come back and play for gold? They should have to beat US twice then since the US hasn't lost. What a stupid system.

Crystal Bustos of the U.S.A. hit a home run in the final game. She was interviewed after the game and I didn't know that there was a man playing on U.S.A.'s team. She/He talked and looked like a man. Did anybody else see that interview? Shocking!

This one hurts. The US had a tough time getting any hits those last two games, and they're a team full of great hitters. What the heck happened? And to the comment from "Girl?"- You spelled Bustos name wrong. If you're going to spread hate, please gain the intelligence necessary to get your facts straight.

Maybe I spelled Bustos' name wrong? OOPS! I think our country may have gotten the gender wrong.

It's not a true double elimination unless you are one of the top 2 teams. In this format, 1 plays 2 and 3 plays 4. The winner of 1 vs. 2, goes to the Gold Medal game. The loser of 1 vs. 2 plays the winner of 3 vs. 4. The loser of that game gets the bronze, and the winner goes back to the Gold medal game. They do this to cut down on games and to avoid the need for a true bronze medal game. It's great for the team coming out of the losers bracket, not so good for the winning team ie; USA
