The Byu fans heads are allready big enough with out Mark Farley refering to Cougars quarterback Max Hall as a "Heisman-type candidate."

my prediction: NI 63 BYU 10
JMT | 7:24 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I don't understand the jealously from the Utes?! They have their own story on Michigan, plenty to talk about and all they can do is follow BYU and moan about them. Of course always predicting their demise. Why is that? I happen to think Utah will have a pretty exciting season this year. I'm looking forward to watching the Utah-Michigan game.

It's like the creepy neighbor down the street that everyone wonders aloud about getting a restraining order on. You Ute trolls just nagging the BYU stories; can't leave'em alone like three day old fries or stale potato chips. Just keep eatnem out of fixation or something.

Please, stick with the Utah stories and don't be so sad. I think Utah will have a great season this year. Likely go to a bowl game again. I know there is a lot of hand wringing that you will lose to BYU...again on a list minute play...again. But hey its football, it builds character and there's always next year.

So don't fret our little brothers. Don't fret. In case the season gets a little rough, there is always the Weber St game to worry about.

Good Job Coach Mendenhall!! | 7:56 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Just in case youre on line looking for next years plan to break down the back door of the BCS, May I suggest that the road to a national title should go through montana Western? (see Weber State) I am nervous about playing NIU this weekend. They were really good last year. And we (the fans) would rather not have to play anyone we could possibly loose to. Like Mighty Tulsa and UCLA.

Thanks,
THE BYU Universtiy

Hey Prophet, uh, er, can I get a piece of that prediction of yours? You've got NI winning by 53... I'll only take 25 of those, OK? It would be a sure thing for ya, right?
ute fans with no life | 8:43 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Utah fans go home, pretend you are actually interested in what your team is doing. I mean really the first two posts are from bitter folks during the wee hours of the morning, go to bed.

I'm reading the posts on the U Michigan game and cougar fans are wishing utah good luck.

Thanks Y fans for being the classier fan base...again.
Jon | 10:11 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
This one makes me nervous. This is a good team, better than many Division 1-A teams (or is it Football Bowl Subdivision--whatever?). They could pull an upset. This is not Utah St.

To Utah. Good luck. It'd be great if you beat Michigan. Of course, I still want you to lose to the Cougs, but Michigan would be a killer upset and be really good for the conference, making the in-conference games look more impressive.

"I don't understand the jealously from the Utes?! They have their own story on Michigan, plenty to talk about and all they can do is follow BYU and moan about them."

The answer is, most of them aren't Utah fans, they're simply BYU haters.
Patsies...YES they are | 10:39 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Re: Jon....don't be nervous. They are a 1-AA team. I don't care what their record was last year or how big or fast their quarterback is...if he were THAT good he'd be playing at Iowa State or somewhere where he'd get some respect. Bronco can dress this anyway he wants, but it is a tune-up for the season. I guarantee BYU coaching is already breaking down Washington and/or UCLA, even as game day is tomorrow. Bronco is reminiscent of Urban Meyer. Urban ALWAYS found ONE good thing about the opponent and harped on it all week long, in an attempt to get his team up to play and to trick them into thinking the opponent was awesome. 98% of fans see right through it. We know UNI is a patsie...so don't try to spin it any other way. If BYU really should be ranked like they are, they should win by 35, at least. They should probably get some playing time for the backup QB too, since they are thin there.

I say BYU 48, UNI 13. Utah 24, Michigan 20.
Lol... | 10:44 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Zoob fans classy? You obviously haven't read the rest of the Ute articles. Half of the comments are from zoobies being jerks.
Re: ute fans with no life | 11:15 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Y fans being the classier fan base? Clearly, you did not see the post by JMT. Sad.

Good luck with your season, BYU...it is going to be a great one for you!!

How's that from a die hard UTE? I guess the UTES now have the classiest fan base.

"If he were that good he'd be playing for [insert name]." The snooty BCS-ers use that one all the time on teams like BYU and Utah, and I bet you get bent out of shape when they do.

There are a good few players in the NFL, All-Pros, even, who came from 1-AA and Div. II schools. Give the guy some respect. If he's good, he's good, no matter where he plays.

The real issue is the size, strength, speed, and overall talent of the team top to bottom. Northern Iowa no doubt has some fine players, but isn't going to be able to match up with BYU across the board.

That said, I'll go with your prediction. BYU should rack up at least 45 points and win by 30. And I hope Utah beats Michigan (I doubt they will, but I want them to).
Al | 12:18 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
As to some previous comments I am not in disagreement that your team should win this game. Hope fully we should be able to hang with you in the first half but after that your overall depth should take over. For us it hinges on our offense staying on the field long enough to keep the defense fresh. And to those who dont want to respect our program, look up the # of players we have in the NFL I think you will be surprised I love this team but Iam also realistic about our abilities Your team will win but we are not patsies & will not roll over for you. I hope your team has a great year. One more thing Iam talking as a former player & a U S Marine not some bench warming wannabe
Re: prophet | 12:21 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Next time your posts should be on the comics page or hopefully the obituaries. If you're a ewe alum, you're probably asking, "Do want fries with that?"
WOMBAT | 12:42 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
oh, both fan bases are really cool. they demonstrate it all the time.
Re: JMT | 12:45 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
It isn't jealousy as you suggest. Think of it as a service project that your brothers to the north (which is UP THE STREET)do for you. We keep the facts separated from the mindless drivel of delusional BYU fans. If BYU fans talked less, there would be less for us Ute fans to do. You folks keep us plenty busy.

Good luck with the Panthers! Mendenhall has now covered his bases in case he looses.
re:re:JMT at 12:45 | 1:18 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Please tell me educated Ute fan, exactly what does Mendenhall do when he "looses." Your Ute education was well worth it.
What I love | 1:26 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
What I love is how Ute fans bash on BYU for playing UNI. If I remember correctly your schedule says Weber State, and they are not ranked anywhere in the FCS. So before you go running your mouth find the facts. The fact is the top 10 FCS teams could be a good number of top 50 teams in the FBS, they are quality programs as evidenced by App St doing something the Utes hope they can do. This isn't Eastern Washington of a few years ago, in fact I would say UNI would easily finish in the top half of the MWC. This isn't UNLV either Ute fan. Get off your we are playing Michigan at the Big House kick so we are better than BYU. Good luck in your game I hope you win, but take a look in the mirror before spouting off about how lame it is for BYU to play UNI, I am glad they are playing them and not Nevada I think they are a better team than Nevada is right now.

prophet, small p small incite large talk. Move to the end of the bench
Not patsies | 2:21 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Take a look at UTube and University of N. Iowa's speed. They could take on any of the big players and put up a game. Reminds me of Boise State several years back when as big underdogs, they kicked Fresno States butt (63-6?). I think it was back in 2002 with Ryan Dinwiddie at the helm.
Ride the Pine | 2:22 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Hall will be through after Q-1 and sitting on the pine. BYU 47; UNI 7.
re:re:re: JMT | 2:53 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
What? Does anyone understand what this upset gentleman is saying?

The post being referenced is clearly alluding to the Deseret News article that stated these silly comments. Mendenhall stated that it is not going to be an easy contest. In case BYU looses, he will be able to say..."see, I told you so. They are a great team."

Coaches do this all the time. Let me know re:re:JMT if you want me to slow down for you.
Cougars go down | 3:05 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Northern Iowa will bring an epic smackdown that the whole college FB world will talk about all season.

UNI: 49, BYU: 17

BCS dreams die here !!! 0-12 begins!
Anonymous | 3:24 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
yeah we can bash each other thaTS COOL
wow!!!!! | 3:35 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I know a lot of Ute fans would rather bash BYU then consider an opening game loss to Michigan in the big house but c'mon. UNI:49, BYU17 What?????????
I don't comprehend how you could think that or even joke that considering who BYU's O is returning. Let us pretend, because UNI IS BETTER than some D-1 schools(not another eastern somthing????), at the least it could become a shootout like BYU Tulsa last season. If your not going to be objective Ute fans at least stop being ignorant. Good luck all three home town teams Utes, cougars and Aggies.

Northern Iowa 28 BYU 27
BYU rocks | 6:03 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Northern Iowa will go home humbled and BYU will be prepared for the Huskies!
Ridgerunner | 7:07 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
As good a coach as Whit is, he is wrong about one thing; one game often does make a season! Consider Michigan's season if they lose to the Utes! On the other hand, if Utah wins, they will be highly praised! So one game often does make a season! On the other hand, BYU is in the same position this weekend as Michigan. If BYU wins, no big deal, most people expects that to happen. But if BYU loses, it will be a huge blow.
Idaho Cougar | 7:10 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
BYU:49
UNI:14

UTAH:27
MICHIGAN:24
Heisman candidate? Hall? | 9:39 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
What a slap in the face to all Heisman winners. I'm a BYU season ticket holder too!
huh | 11:23 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
to Ridgerunner what do you mean when you say "Consider Michigan's season if they lose to the Utes!" I am lost on that comment. I think losing to App State was a bigger blow than if they lose to Utah. They have a new head coach, new system, new/no QB, new RBs. I think Michigan is the underdog this year. There offensive firepower left after last season. Michigan losing to App State is and will always be worse than losing to Utah(if they lose to Utah which I think they will). Oh and by the way Michigan did beat the Heisman Trophy winner last season in the Capitol One Bowl and Mike Hart fumbled twice on the one yard line so it really shouldn't have been a once posession game. So I disagree with you and say that one game does not make a season. I would say that losing to App State then turning around and beating the youngest Heisman winner ever says a lot about a team. One game is not as devastating as you think.
RE: Heisman candidate? Hall? | 12:25 a.m. Aug. 30, 2008
If you had any brains and looked at the numbers Hall put up as a sophomore you would realize he is very worthy to be considered in the heisman hunt. 3900 yds passing, 26 td's, as a sophomore that hadn't played ball for 3 years? And you call yourself a BYU fan? We don't want you!
