They reported it very differently locally. He's from Menan, and he WAS trespassing, because the roof is trespassing. But they chose not to press charges anyway, "because his wife promised to take care of him." How can it be reported so differently between states? Which one is correct? Or have the police changed their story?

I'd say that the reporter simply wasn't thinking. Anyone found on the roof of private property (unless invited to be there) is obviously trespassing. The reporter probably jumped to erroneous conclusions based on the fact that charges weren't filed.

A couple questions. How did he get on the roof of the temple? And why wasn't it trespassing?

did he wonder off the public areas of the temple and ended up on the roof? I would imagine there would be a door along the way that would take him through the attic and eventually on top of the roof...

Take any of these news reports with a grain of salt. My sister-in-law was found and gave first-aid to a guy up Little Cottonwood on the 4th of July. None of the news agencies did more than mention her as an unidentified woman who helped a couple of Boy Scouts save the guys life. Even after sending the correct story to KSL, the Tribune and the Deseret News nothing was corrected. If it takes them more than 90 seconds to do a "story" they usually aren't interested.

The poor guy needs help. Where are our Christian values when they are needed?

I'm glad he's ok. I do have a couple of questions though:
1 - How on earth did he get up the roof?
2 - Didn't anyone see him going up?

I have not been to the Rexburg Temple. I have been to the Oakland Temple and I have been on the roof without trespassing. I have also been to the LDS Confrence Center in downtown SLC ON THE ROOF and was not considered trespassing. Not sure what the set up is in Rexburg.

Trespassing is only a crime if those who own the property consider you to be trespassing. Thus, if the LDS Church says he wasn't trespassing, he wasn't.

Anonymous not what you are talking about concerning Christian values. If the man was disoriented and on the roof then they took good care of him. They sent him to be evaluated. I don't think the problem was that he was trespassing it was if he was ok. And I'm sure the church would not pursue trespassing charges. Get real.
And Anonymous, aren't you the one that jumps from one LDS article to another trying to put down or speak unkindly of every thing that is written. Really, don't you have something more worthwhile to do with your life?

How can one trespass on Gods property?

It's not "God's property." It's LDS Church property.
