As with anything in life, you cannot keep doing the same things and expect different results!!! Guy and staff should have been gone last year instead it's another wasted year.

Ags will have problems all year long with O. The D will be killed because of it. Hate to say it but it does look like it we will get lucky to get 1 W this year.

I'm 12 and I know you can't run it up the middle on EVERY firstdown especially when you get only 1 or 2 yards. Try throwing the ball. But oh well GO AGGIES.

This was a must win for USU, and we blew it! We're realistically looking at 0-3 now to open the season. I agee that we need to be able to run the ball. This is how successful teams do it. However, we have to be able to get 200-250 yards a game out of our running backs, and not a 100!! Likewise, the quarterback should never be the leading rusher. The offense has got to step it up. I really thought we had a opportunity to turn things around this season. But after last night it looks like more of the same. This was an absolute disaster for Utah State.

Flares, dives, and bubble screens won't establish a winning team. We need an offense that will coach them UP, instead of an offensive scheme that coaches them DOWN.

I have been a fan of the Aggies since the 40's. This direction they have taken this past 20 yrs or so in football just is not accecptable. Either recruit heavy with the right staff or, drop down to a lower classification, or just quit playing football. It's a loser. there are former players on major programs staffs that have been completely over looked when recruiting for a new coach. WHY? Either get in or get out.
Tom | 10:42 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
Looks like a 1 win season for the Aggies.
not again | 11:21 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
I truely beleive that Timpview And Cottonwood High could both handle Utah State
Re: not again | 12:40 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
If you truly believe that, wow, reality check. Guys that play division 1 are much bigger, taller, faster. Would love to see that match up. Stop with the stupid high school vs college matchups.
Yeah, this was a winnable game for the Aggies but it was only one game. We had a new QB starting his first game, some turnovers that happened. It was a normal college football game. The Ags didnt give up. Borel showed some promise. And why cant an athletic guy like Borel be the leading rusher? Nobody complained when Michael Vick was the leading rusher on his team. Not that Borel is Vick but there are tons more teams in the country that use the QB as a runner too.
It was one game, dont be so negative

Utah St. neednt drop down to 1-AA. They should drop down to UHSSA. Ha ha ha ha! Looks like its up to US once again to carry the state of Utah college football. None of you other wannabee football (*snicker*) teams in this state will ever be as nationally recognized as my beloved Cougars. You should all just beef up your womens porgrams and hope for the best. Bunch of loosers!!!!

Rise and Shout! GOOOOOOO COUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: TruBlue Coug | 2:54 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
Thats spoken like a real Cougar, arrogant and prideful
Re: TruBlue Coug | 2:56 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
TruBlue Coug,

Wow....those are some impressively kind words, that don't fit with what The Church believes in. That really makes you look smart and sophisticated to talk down to other schools. I hope you know that many USU alumni and fans are also members of the church, whose tithes supplement your schools tuition and programs. You should be ashamed of your comments. We weren't even playing BYU. Do you have some sort of inferiority complex? I hope the Cougars have a great season, and I hope we have a chance at busting their dreams for a BCS bowl berth. By the way, U of U has more wins against BCS conference teams than any other non bcs program in the nation, so don't have such a big head.

I hope the Ags can pick it up for the next game. I was glad to see them come alive near the end and convert a 4 and 10, and then score a touch down. I know it was too little too late, but hey....
TruBlue Coug | 3:06 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
"By the way, U of U has more wins against BCS conference teams than any other non bcs program in the nation"

But do they have a National Championship? NO! So what if they have more wins against BCS teams? We've TOTALLY OWN them for the last 30 yrs. We've TOTALLY OWNED YOU too. Who is picked as this years BCS Buster? Utah? Nooooo. Utah St? Don't make me laugh. ITS BYU!!!!!!! RISE AND SHOUT.

GOOOOOOOO COUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RE: TruBlue Coug | 3:32 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
The Cougars are nationally recognized for being over rated and SLOW. It is awesome that you had the opportunity to get on here and bash USU, it is how Mormons roll, so to be expected I guess. I also like the 84' recall, not much to speak about in the present is there? BYU will experience a great season and I have no problem saying that but it will be a great season only to those in Provo, outside of Utah and Provo few if any really care about BYU and are obviously unimpressed by Mormons-just look at Mitt Romney not getting the nod, why because of the arroance people like you at a church school demonstrate but don't stop now, please do keep posting on a USU article, it is good to see we can somehow still manage some attention from the "bubble" :)

trublue,

First off thanks for showing your byu education with "loosers" comment. What exactly is a looser? And Utah beats Michigan on the road and you beat the always tough Northern Iowa First Branch of Des Moines and you guys are really that good? And the last time I checked it doesn't really matter what you are picked to do. Only what you do matters! What a LOSER!!
Showing class | 4:34 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
Obviously TruBlue missed that lesson on humility and obviously didnt take the course: how to win with class 101 ... oh wait, that course was cancelled at byu cuz nobody was interested in being classy. Nice victory Utes. nice victory cougars. a win against uni really shows what you are picked to do.

Fire Coach Guy!
Henderson Aggie | 7:24 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
I attended the game and it was like a replay of last years game in Logan...winable but full of mistakes, no disipline and poor coaching. With 12 minutes left the game, Aggies have a fourth and one on the 50 and do they punt? Do they run? No, they go for it (with an inclomplete pass) and turn the ball back to UNLV on the fifty with 12 minutes left in the game. I'm still dumbfounded by this call, but it's kind of a Guy trademark.

Today a Las Vegas sports writer said it was, "...a win against what is traditionally one of the nation's poorest Division 1-A outfits". Aggie football now has a tradition and a legacy that will continue under Coach Guy.
Anonymous | 8:27 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
It's time to fire Guy and his staff. When two of your potential starting quarterbacks transfer to other schools or quit football outright rather than play for Guy that should tell you something.

USU need quality athletes, but how can Guy recruit them when he has had a program listed in the division IA "bottom 10" for three years running and will probably be there again this year?

USU might be able to beat Cottonwood or Timpview, but I don't think they could beat a team of good Utah high school graduates recruited and coached by the coaching staffs at Timpview, Cottonwood or Snow College.

Guy's legacy of loosing will probably get USU kicked out of Division IA due to poor attendance. Guy costs USU a lot more than his salary. Get a GOOD coach and pay him appropriately. A competent coach would improve both game attendance and recruiting.

The new A.D. should start a search for a new coaching staff NOW!!!
TruBlue Coug - Imposter! | 9:25 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
TruBlue Coug is a Yewt troll folks.

The problem with posting on D. News articles is that you are not requred to use the same name each time. Now I know there are ways around that as well, but requiring a person to use the same login name - and attaching that login name to each of his / her posts would be much better than the system the D. News employs now.

I can guarantee that the person posing as a Cougar fan above is a Utah fan trying to make BYU fans look bad.

As far as Utah State football, I wish I had a solution. Unfortunately, things currently look pretty bleak. But considering the woes BYU faced for decades (until the late 60s early 70s), if BYU can turn it around, ayone can.

Hang in there Aggies!
Re: Re: Not Again | 7:45 a.m. Sept. 1, 2008
A couple of comments for this blogger. First, if USU is going to rely on their running game, then, they have to have running backs that can get them 100+ yards/game. They haven't had this in the BG era. Instead, their backs get 50-60 yards (2/carry). This just won't cut it. It's true that Borel can run as a QB. But, he can't carry the whole team on his own. We have to have running backs and an offensive scheme that can get us the yards. Also, its true that we still have 11 games to go. The problem is who we play. Realistically, this was one of the few games we play this year that was very winnable. Unfortunately, we blew it! It will be a lot tougher against Oregon, Utah, Boise State, Fresno State, etc. But, I still say Go Aggies!!!
Tough Year!! | 6:29 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Tough year with 7 teams that went "bowling" last year. Oregon, BYU, Fresno, Utah, and Boise will not lose to USU. Nevada, San Jose, New Mexico State are improved so these are questionable. That leaves Idaho and La Tech. La Tech upset a BCS / SEC Mississippi State so they won't lose to USU. That leaves Hawaii and Idaho. Maybe 1 win- time for the school to look to the future. The past was great, the present is horrible, so look to the future.
[SMuG | 7:21 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
If USU would just pay Guy the 850k he is entitled to USU would win. PAY MORE
Entitled to 850K? | 11:39 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Shirley, you must be joking. If he wanted that kind of money he should perform like it. As it stands now, he is one of the most overpaid coaches in the nation, based on results.

Just win baby.

Go Aggies!

PS - And yes, I called you Shirley.
Commission | 12:54 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Maybe the coaching world should go to a small base plus big commission pay scale. That would make them take some risk and reward the coaches that win. BG would be living close to poverty line. Make them perform and then pay them. It sure would make them be a little more aggressive and take some risk on 4th and 1 on the 50.
Not so True Blue | 2:45 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I bet this showing along with increased ticket prices will really pack them in Romney Stadium. I could get a lot more bang for my buck by getting a cable package with "The Mountain". Sorry, I love football, but this Brent Guy era hasn't provided any fun moments (other than watching Robinson return kicks for the past couple of years) or much hope for the future. Life as an Aggie football fan just sucks!!!!

However, I would be glad to jump on the bandwagon if one ever comes along. I'm not holding my breath though.

Thank goodness we have 3 good HS football programs in the valley to watch.
Black and Blue | 3:18 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
If Guy was really paid what he is worth he may just leave on his own, prior to termination. Any suggestions on how to alter the contract, legally?
USU | 8:01 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
LETS stop pumping money into the football staduim and Build a new basketball arena..... correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't Mick a better coack than Guy? Guy was supposed to start out losing then start to win as each season passed.. mick won at least three or four games every season...did he not? For every 11-1 team there has to be a 1-11 team...... utah state is in a rut.... USU's old school politics are partly to blame.... if our basketball coach was a regular guy.... their team would blow also....
