His speech should have been listened by all GOP delegates

Wow, what has the national republican party done for Utah? Utah is the most loyal red State in the nation and what do we get? Zippo! If Mit ran on the Dem.
ticket he would have had the chance to pull it off because the Dems are not bigots like the Republicans. And Mit would not have had to flip flop on every idea he ever had as a Dem. Yep folks, keep sending your dollars to the Republicans.

Utah Republicans talking to themselves. What else is new?
Truly sad. | 10:41 a.m. Sept. 3, 2008
It would have been better to listen to him, even though I don't agree with some of the things he says, than the failed "president" whose failed policies have put the country down the toilet these last eight years.

Huntsman would have been more suited for the Democratic Convention, than the Republicans. Either that or the Self-Centered Egotists Who Believe Leadership is Rightfully Theirs Convention.

What happens in Utah - stays in Utah.
Those outside the Zion Curtain could care less what goes on here.

Who cares what Jon Huntsman thinks or says? He's a party hack.

Poor sad Utahns.
Can't they see why they are the laughingstock of the nation yet?

Re: Anonymous | 12:24 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
No, why I pray, are we the "laughingstock" of the nation? I'm a Native Utahn who has lived outside of Utah for several years, I don't ever recall over-hearing a group of people laughing it up over Utah. They may have difficulty placing where it is among "all those square states" but they're not laughing over Utah. I encounter standard east/west coast elitism from time to time, but no bawdy party jokes about Utah. So what exactly are you talking about?
Pretty bold statement for someone too cowardly to go on the record.

A Class Act | 12:29 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Huntsman is a class act. I suspect we will be reading about him on a national level in the future. He is intelligent and has good policy.

Poor Luke Peterson.
Can't believe the outside world sees Utah as the laughingstock of the nation.
Probably can't believe there are those living in Utah that view the predominent culture as laughingstock either.
And so it is.

I couldn't put it better myself!
These "Republicans" outside of Utah probably have a mindset where the Utah Republicans are brainless boneheads who's easy to take advantaged of. We're alot more on the ball than what "they" think! The Dems. respect us alot more than the Republicans. Utah a loyal Replican State? Oh the irony!
I had the pleasure of meeting the Governor one on one and shaking his hand, and I thought he was a stand-up guy who genuinely cares on what goes on in Utah and outside of Utah. The people who planned Huntsman to speak yesterday, are probably are the same ones that cancelled him and are most likely getting a real kick out of it.
...Actually they may not, but it sure seems fishy that they would do it near the last minute of the convention.
It's all my opinion folks.

Too bad Palin is from Idaho, close but not quite in Utah. Anyway, she fits right in with the "laughing stock" of the nation label.

Hey, to those whining about Utah - move out. My taxes can be reduced if I don't have to support you.

That is hilarious! Wow it is hard to try out for president when they won' t let you on the stage.

No, no, no, lobo!
YOU move out.
The rest of us will never rest until we see change in this God-forsaken state.

Why wast time with Utah, our vote is locked in anyway. They showed they can kick us in the teeth and we will still come back thanking them and voting red all the time smiling with missing teeth.

As an out-of-stater, I think Mr. Huntsman is one of the finest governors in all 50. Count your blessings all you Utahns!
Hopefully, your gov will receive a national call someday.

Utah will keep voting Republican until their pride means more to them than gay marriage and abortion. I guess it's just priorities, huh?
Lew Jeppson | 3:33 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Can you believe of the pro-life candidates for VP, McCain and the rest of the Christian right GOP chose a backwoods hick politician over the urbane, financier and leader Romney? Now, Romney is not my cup of tea, but he is a leader; witness his rescue of our corrupt Olympics. The Utah Republican delegation doesn't know when it has been slapped in the face. Maybe Utah LDS ought to rethink their political loyalties.

Jonny boy gives good lip service but Presidential I don't think so. He's a Gov because of family name and religion not qualifications. What has Jon done on his own in his life. High school drop out then daddys money got him into best colleges -- daddys money got him an Embassadorship too - what has Jon done besides the soccer stadium and slave hours for the state employees
might as well admit it | 4:25 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Utahns might as well admit it.
Mormons will never be accepted by mainstream America.
Mormon politicians included.
They are viewed as a "peculiar people."
(Gordon B. Hinckley's own words)
Perhaps way too peculiar for their own good.
Revamp the backwards, prohibition-style liquor laws,
have the state legislation take the day off on Martin Luther King Day like the rest of America and that might be a start.
Until then ... it's "What's Utah?"

Obviously, you've never worked for the man.
McCain supporter from the start | 4:50 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
This is really pathetic. Recall that Huntsman was one of McCain's earliest and strongest supporters. But why should the Republican party treat Utahns any differently? They know they have this state sewn up. Not until some political balance is restored to the great state of Utah will either party treat us with respect.
The citizens of Utah are getting just what they deserve. If Utah Republicans want a little respect, vote for Obama and put a little fear into the hearts of the party's leadership. Once they realize that Utah is up for grabs, they'll start to treat us a little better.

I find it interesting that there is no mention of Huntsman's ridiculous comment about Sarah Palin:
"I love when people say she has no national-security experience, no foreign-policy experience,The state borders Russia and Canada, for heaven's sake."
The Tribune thought that was the story. The D News doesn't think it deserves a mention?

Mental Midgets among us-most of whom are named 'anonymous' and can only spew hatred and vitriol.
How angry you must be that you can only whine and tell anyone within earshot what a loser you are.
Utah is an amazing place with a lot of good and decent people. Sorry you don't fit in.
There are the tragic few among us that can only be angry and jealous of the rich and/or famous and those that have cherished values.
Nothing better to do than anonymously share your rage.
Thanks for sharing...fortunately we can do without you and your anger.

You're still anonymous, and you still have not yet articulated ANY argument as to how or why Utah is the "laughingstock of the nation." I will assume that you are incapable of reasoned thought, wholly bereft of any unique identity, personality or distinguishing insights and bid you goodnight.

Yes, Utahns (jspecifically Mormons) are considered a 'peculiar people' and I just wish they would, once again live up to that noble and complementary moniker. I wish they would once again become peculiar by behaving in accordance to the LDS teachings about loving each other, treating others with kindness and foregoing material wealth over spiritual wealth. If they could once again become a peculiar people perhaps they would wake up and realize that the battle between 'good and evil' isn't identified through political parties - that one isn't particularly good and the other particularly evil. I wish these peculiar people would use discernment to identify when actions are markedly different or even opposite from the words being spouted by so-called social leaders. There is a great disconnect now.
King John... | 11:50 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
should have spoken at the Democratic convention in Denver. His beliefs and actions are that of a liberal socialist. He has increased the size of state government more than any governor in history.

To reassess it's alignment with the GOP - at least for a season. Let's show them that we have a voice, an it WILL be heard.
It's time folks. Let's do it. It will be a hard 4 years with Obama, but it's going to be a hard 4 wtih McCain and what's her name. We can do it! We can stick together and help shape what our country will become if we stand tall and tell them we no longer walk in lock step.

John Hunstman has proven that he is not a leader. He has let the Legislative Leadership push him around over issues like Vouchers, District Splits, and ethics reform. Huntsman has a great dad but he does not measure up to his old man. The National GOP hates Mormons and thinks Utahans are idiots. These are the reasons that Huntsman was not allowed to speak. He has supported Mcain all along and Mcain still threw him to the dogs. The biggest reason that Huntsman supported Mcain was because he hates Romney's guts because Romney was chosen to lead the Olympics over pretty boy John. We Utahans get exactly what we deserve. We have given the bigoted anti-Mormon GOP our total blind support and they have thrown us to the dogs. Please vote for independent candidates or Democrats this fall. Let's send a message to the local and national GOP that we have had enough!!!
