BYU legacy | 1:52 a.m. Sept. 13, 2008
I've been a fan for 40 years. BYU has ALWAYS had high hopes and thought of themselves as national contenders, even though our record has proved otherwise against top 10 teams at home or especially on the road (1 win vs. Miami in 1990).
UCLA is NOT going to come into Provo unprepared as they did vs. Utah last year. They are not going to easily let BYU pick up a second win. If we eke out a win against them it will not convince the country that we are deserving of a top ten ranking or BCS Bowl. We have to win big.
I also do not expect UCLA or UW to be in the top 3 of the PAC 10 at season end. It will be USC, Oregon and ASU or Stanford.
GO COUGS!!!

It's always time to make a statement... This week is no different.

But Notre Dame is a really bad team. The story of the decade is Charlie Weis gets a multi-multi-million dollar contract for being a really mediocre coach.
not quite sure... | 9:54 a.m. Sept. 13, 2008
if BYU can pull this one off. UCLA is a better team than Washington, and they have a HUGE chip on their shoulder from Las Vegas. They won't quit, and the sight of Edwards stadium is welcome compared to the PAC-10 venues they are used to. Good luck Cougs...hope your defense doesn't get pistol-whipped.

The MWC will make the same statement this week that they make every year.....a nowhere conference going nowhere.

UClA 28 BYU 23
Quite sure | 11:22 a.m. Sept. 13, 2008
How is Edwards Stadium a welcome site?... BYU is nearly unbeatable at home, the altitude, the noise... Tell me UCLA wouldn't rather be in Pullman or Tucson.

It's all about byus defense in this game and byus running game. Anae should call the run play more with their line and unga. The defense will be in trouble if the craft that shows up is the same one that showed up the second half of the tenn game. If he gets time to throw it could be a long afternoon for byu's secondary.
LES is more | 1:17 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
BYU's 16-3 at home since Bronco arrived. 3-3 in the first year and 13-0 since. However, in what I'd call big games (BCS or rival=Utah) their record during that span is 2-2. 1-1 against the Utes, 0-1 against BC, 1-0 against AZ. So while they've won a lot of games there, today is the rubber match also in terms of big games at the stadium.
Re: LES is more | 2:28 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
BTW, UCLA isn't any good. We'll look back on this game at the end of the year and realize that UCLA isn't good. We'll do the same with Utah's win over Michigan...they're not any good either. The best team that either will play this year is TCU and each other.

28-21? 24-21? There's 10 minutes to go in the second quarter and the Cougars have already scored 28! Who could have imagined that? Two long drives and two TDs off turnovers. I think this team is trying to make a statement.
And as I type, the Cougars recover ANOTHER fumble on the kickoff! It's a good time to be a Cougar fan.
But, UCLA had a great second half vs. Tennessee, so the Cougars have to keep playing. They need to continue to execute.

I wonder if all the carping and whining on ESPN gave the Cougars something to prove. Obviously yes. I also wonder if ESPN favors the conferences that it is contracted with -- would make sense.

Not a legacy? Who really cares if BYU is a legacy or not. Look at Michigan and Notre Dame, both of which would have to be considered legacies by any standard. I'm much happier as a BYU fan right now.
HUGE WIN! | 8:25 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
It looks like UCLA quit before the game even started. 2 weeks to prepare and this is the game they played?
The reality is BYU is a great team this year. If Unga hadn't fumbled last week, then last week's game would have been 14 point win. UW was lucky to still be in that game.
Can BYU run the table? I don't know, that's really hard to do especially with 2 conference games on the road still.
But, this was a dominant game by a mid-major school who doesn't have all of the advantages of being in the Pac-10. Throw that into the mix and you realize how good this team really is.
Remember too that UCLA beat a team from the SEC (the greatest conference in the country) 2 weeks ago. So they're not a bad team. BYU just played that great today. Bronco is starting to look like a genius.

Who can deliver? None because the MWC is the pansy of conferences.
Re Kyle | 10:16 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
If by Pansy you mean winning 5 out of conference games today, 3 against the awful PAC 10(maybe four, come on unlv) then you're dead on.

Kyle from AZ, I just read your comment after UNLV knocked off ASU. I had to laugh. How ironic!

Big win for BYU, but UNLV steals the show by upsetting a ranked team on the road. That's huge. The BYU win, completely dominant. But they can't sustain that all year. Kyle, Pac-10 is overrated. Without USC, you'd be a mediocre conference. Utah didn't look very good tonight, but they were playing Logan Junior High, so they escape with a narrow win, despite their inability to return punts. TCU win is expected. Stanford's not good. UNM played tough for second week against BCS school. SDSU sucks!
GO MWC!!!! | 12:16 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
4 Games against the PAC-10, 4 WINS!!!!! Anyone who says the MWC is weak is not thinking clearly. Our bottom dweller (UNLV) just beat the PAC-10's #2 (Arizona St.) Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!
Idaho Cougar Fan | 12:40 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
With the big win for UNLV over ASU, the MWC is 4-0 today against the Pac-10 and 5-0 on the season. The MWC should be the third best conference in college football. After todays games, my list is:
Big-12 (that conference can score some points)
Sec (They can play some D, and D wins championships)
MWC (Own the Pac-10, 4 teams at 3-0)
Pac-10 (USC vs tOSU, nuff said)
Big 10 (Not good, but saidly better than the others)
ACC (Look a little better than Big-Least)
Big Least (there so bad that C-USA is knockin' on door)
C-USA (ECU and Tulsa give them a slight BCS chance)
WAC (better teams at the top, but the bottom suck)
MAC (Better depth than WAC, but no legit BCS buster)
Sun Belt (getting better, have improved a lot in last 2 years.)

Wow!! ??Pansy of conferences?? PAC-10 was even defeated by UNLV at AZ!
To Kyle from AZ... | 12:53 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Your homestate (and 2nd highest ranked team in the PAC-10) Sundevils just got beat at home by one of the worst MWC teams. MWC 4 Pac-10 0. The MWC shutup the likes of you today.

The key will be BYU's defense. They need to step it up a level and play equal to the machine-like, awesome BYU offense. If they do, BYU wins. Leadership and playmakers on defense have to come forward against UCLA.
Jan Jorgensen and Scott Johnson were the big time defensive playmakers at UW. Who is willing to step up and really take the leadership roles of this BYU defense? Jorgensen? Johnson? Nixon? Maybe it will be Clawson. He plays with intensity!
Offense wins games, Defense wins Championships!
DEFENSE IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE!!!
GO COUGARS!!!
