I notice when he puts people on their back. He has made some great blocks. We the fans do notice them. Thanks Fui. Keep it up.

I am very impressed with how Fui has been able to take on the new role. It shows that he understands that the team is what is important. Individual stats are not what's important, but making plays for the team. I love the intensity that he brings to the team. Keep up the good work.

You guys look like Larry Czonka, FB (Syracuse) and Jim Kiick, HB(Wyoming) of the 1972 Miami Dolphins! The only difference is that Larry Czonka ran into people not around while carrying the ball. Excellent work!

Fui, when you are drafted into the NFL and get some serious playing time as a great blocking full-back, you will know this was the right move. Besides the great play you are doing for this team.
I'm not a numbers geek but most half backs in the NFL are slightly less than 240lbs. And even though you are fast I am guessing you are not as fast as the average NFL half-back. But as a full back you are perfect!
And how many teams have great full-backs? Former BYU tightend Daniel Coats was moved from a great blacking tightend to a better blocking full-back.
It is an unheralded position but someone needs to spring lose Adrian Peterson or that Bush guy from New Orleans.
As great as Unga is you probably have a better chance of playing in the NFL as a full-back than Unga does as a half-back. For his size and speed I would bet money they would ask him to play full-back.
You are doing great and putting yourself in a great position to make a great living moving bodies out of the way.
Go BYU!

Fui, You ROCK! I love those pancake blocks that i"ve seen this year! You play an important role on this team, Keep it up!
BYU & UTE Fan | 9:07 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Fui's the best blocking back I've seen at BYU in a long time. I often see him block two defenders per carry. And he's a great running back. If only he would run upfield for yardage more, instead of trying to get the corner or pause to try to make the big play
George | 9:13 a.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Fui, you are terrific. You were a great missionary here in the California Carlsbad mission and you are a terrific person and highly talented football player. We watch you and your bruising blocking and running. I hear Fuiiii all the time as more than 100 of us watch the games on the theater movie screen next to the Carlsbad Mall.

Fui: We as fans cannot say enough good things about you and your ability to do whatever the coaches ask of you. You are noticed EVERY time you are on the field by the traveling cheeseheads. this experience at fullback may just get you in the NFL. look at Dan Coats. while other players were getting all the glory of catching balls, Coats now has a job in the NFL because he knows how to block. good things are yet to come for you Fui. Keep up the great work. We as fans notice every play you are involved in.

When the crowd yells FUUUUUIIIIII, I'm sure he knows how much he's loved. He's one of MY favorites on the team.
I'd like to see both backs line up on each side of the QB like Crowton did with Staley and McDonald-Ashworth. Teams didn't know which back was going to get the ball, let alone which direction they were going to take it. Until McDonald-Ashworth got injured, teams didn't know how to defend those running plays.
It'd be a nice wrinkle to add to the current offensive schemes, and help Fui to get more carries.

I Love watching Unga grab the back of Fui's jersey and follow him down field. You both are doing awesome.

The fans notice the great work Fui is doing each week. After all, I don't hear them shouting anyone else's name each week.

BYU #7 in new polls | 12:09 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
BYU has moved up to #7 in the latest Coaches Poll and #8 in the AP Poll. Utah checks in at #15 in both.
FUI is my HERO!!! | 12:37 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Fui is still my favorite player on the team!!! Watching him block is almoast as fun as watching him run. I don't recall watching anyone double block as much as Fui does. I swear every other play it takes one guy totally out of the play, and then turns and takes another guy out. GO VAKAPUNA!!! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!
Fui | 12:43 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
I love watching Fui block for Unga, I notice on a lot of the running plays he will block someone at the first level (usually a line backer) and then go to a safety and block them. It is fun to watch!! GO COUGARS!!!
Hawk | 2:08 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Keep on knocking them down, Vui. It's great to be a Coog.
Anonymous | 2:57 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Fui, you're a real man. Best fullback we've had in a long time. You were awesome carrying the ball but this way we may even see you in the NFL. Good luck.

FUI! You are an awesome PERSON and a GREAT FOOTBALL PLAYER!!!!
PACougar | 4:41 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Got my grad degree at Washington State, after 5 years in Provo. What Seahawk says is true: Nobody calls WSU the 'Cougars.' It's 'Cougs' wherever you go. I love Pullman and WSU, unlike Seahawk--Seattle folks have little good to say about the place.
But it's true that 'Coug' is used as a verb, even in Pullman, meaning 'to blow the game.'
Or in the case of, say, Ryan Leaf, 'to blow an entire career.' A true Coug. Please, Cougars, don't do that to yourselves.

Cougs, if you win the Las Vegas Bowl this year, and rush the field like last year. Please don't break equipment that is on the field, like you did last year. UNLV will probably bill you for it this year.

Wayne Rout | 7:19 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Bracket Buster Bob...don't worry, the Cougars will steer clear of Las Vegas this year. The conference basketball tournament proved again that UNLV and Las Vegas do not know how to stage a major sporting event. Maybe by the time the Cougars play their again, the facilities will be better and the event management will be more professional. Then, Bob, you won't have to worry so much, besides, maybe it was UCLA fans rushing out of town that caused the damage. Thanks for caring about the yard markers and towels, you're obviously a very classy guy.
TC | 10:58 p.m. Sept. 28, 2008
Yep Fui... we notice. Real football people are taking notice. Fui has a great shot at making it in the NFL. He can be what Mack Strong was to the Seattle Seahawks. He reminds me of another big back that has made a good career in the NFL - Mike Sellers for the Washington Redskins. Sellers blows away linebackers and safeties to make way for Clinton Portis. Sellers is called upon once in a while to grind out a tough yard or to catch a short pass for a first down or touchdown.
Fui is doing a great job. I notice that fans scream "Fuiiiii" whenever he touches the ball. However, it won't surprise me if we start hearing "Fuiiiii" when he knocks a linebacker on his back to open a hole for Harvey.

Fui, one time I saw you at Steve & Barry's. That was awesome! Most of these people just tell you what you want to hear as far as recognizing your work goes, but I know a lot more people will be watching you from now on. You rock. Go cougs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watching in Japan | 6:07 a.m. Sept. 29, 2008
I've loved watching Harvey and Fui this year from Japan and hope that BYU picks up the running game more this week against Utah State. My biggest concern this season is that everyone stays healthy until the end, especially Fui and Harvey.
Fui Fan | 12:11 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
I have always been a Fui fan. He works as hard as any man and still smiles about it. Great example. Thanks Fui.
BYU-ASU | 12:14 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Without Fui, Harvey does not have the yards per carry or the number of touchdowns he currently does. He carries that running game on his back, and other team's know where the running game's power is coming from. They just can't seem to stop Fui!
Fui is a fan favorite, there's no doubt about it. I can remember yelling L-U-U-U-U-U-K-E!!!!! back when Staley was running over people. Haven't heard anything like it since, except now it's calls of F-U-U-U-U-U-U-U-U-U-I-I-I-I!!!!!!!!
It's well deserved, and I hope we get to see plenty of it this year!

I believe that sometime this year, Both Harvey and Fui will rush for 100+ yards, which hasn't happened since Ronnie Jenkins and Brian MacKenzie.
I love the guy. He was a star-in-the-making as Curtis Brown's understudy and will end his career as a blocking fullback whose name won't be remembered.
Sad ...

To Fui Vakapuna | 2:13 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Sure, Fui Vakapuna is a great blocker. But is he as good as Sashoni Teratuna? Sashoni, as many of the sports greats will remember, is one of the great football blockers for BYU back in Ninteen-dickety two. We couldn't say twenty back then, cuz the Kaiser stole it from us. So, Sashoni Teratuna blocked for the Y from Nineteen-dickety-three to Ninteen-dickety-seven. He wore an onion on his belt, since it was the style at the time. Now, in order to acquire an onion, you had to purchase one for a quarter. Nickels had pics of bees on them back then. "Give me five bees for a quarter", you'd say. Anyway, Shashoni was a real man. He was a candidate for the Heisman, which was a beauty contest back then.
lilhool | 2:18 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
I saw the double block in the Washington game and commented to other's how great it was! I think it gives Fui a real shot in the NFL. THere's never enough backs who can run, catch and block. We love you Fui, kep up the good works....
FuiFan | 7:49 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
Fui, you will be what I remember from this team. You were getting a good amount of carries in the 2006 year, and now have taken a lesser role just to help the team out. A lot of BYU's success banks on guys like you willing to take not so glamourous role, but a very important role. Thanks man your the greatest.
Fui & Unga | 8:51 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
The unstoppable duo!! I love how Fui flattens his opponents, and I love how Unga just drives right behind him. You both are great football players, and it makes me glad to know that Fui isn't some punk like Ben Olson (sp?) who has to have the ball in his hands or he'll go off and pout. Way to go Fui and Harvey...you guys rock!!
SZD | 8:53 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
The first time we saw #1 Fui Vakapuna on the field at LaVell Edwards Stadium, we knew he'd be a super player. What a steamroller!!
And more importantly...what a good man! Thank you for your great role-model.
You are a good one for young people to keep an eye on.

now that is as fine a shake off as i've seen since Doug White from Weber State taught the class.

Wayne Rout,
The next time you bring your Peter Priesthood buddies for a B-Ball game we'll bust you in the other eye! BYU B-Ball fans are the most obnoxious idiots around. I sat right there and watched them get what they deserved. Props go to the UNLV fans for not taking them out earlier!

DDH | 11:41 p.m. Sept. 29, 2008
The Washington game blocking was awesome. Fui has not only opened things up for Unga, but has been excellent against blitzes. No one has even laid a finger on Max since NUI and that was when our man Fui was out. Way to protect your team and spark the offense. Every single running play I look for #1.
