After watching Utah nearly flub-the-dub, I hope the BYU players took note. There have been plenty reminders so far this season (weekly, in fact), that ANYONE can be knocked off by ANYONE ELSE.
I doubt BYU will lose to Utah State Friday night, but they could come out flat again (like with Wyoming) and barely squeak out a win. Utah can get away with a squeaker because their competition was more respectable. BYU needs a blowout, unfortunately.
BTW, Utah's many bone-headed goofs throughout the game make me think that they're not at BYU's level this year. If BYU goes undefeated up to the last game, I doubt Utah will be. Too bad. Two top 10 teams duking it out would be so fun to watch!
And, wasn't it fun to see that overrated Florida team lose to Pitt? Yup, another faker falls out of the unbeaten.
Last weekend's withdrawals were horrible. GO COUGARS!

Wow this must be the hardest game BYU is playing so far this year. Must be hard to admit that Utah’s schedule is harder than yours. I would sell my soul to see BYU lose this game just so I could read about how the refs blew the game for you. And if it was not the refs fault it would be someone else’s other than your team. You cry about everything.
Go Utah, Go Utah St.
May BYU lose?

Cougs will never jump to #5. They have to play a team with a winning record.
Please! | 4:25 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
The Aggies don't deserve to be on the same field. As a former Aggie, I'm embarrassed for them. Guy needs to go at year's end. BYU 58 USU 10 (Again, that's the starters only playing 2 1/2 quarters).

Rhino, what a sad life in that your only motivation is failure.
Football is about supporting your team. Maybe you should be focused on the good that Utah State has. Or the great game that Utah played last night. Instead, just hatred.
Sad, sad little man.

With the schedule we have played (opponents have a total of 5 wins) we are lucky to be considered a top 10 team.
Hats off to the U for beating a preseason top 20 team that was projected to finish 3rd in the PAC 10 behind USC and ASU.

BYU movin up | 5:35 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Cougs will never jump to #5? They are already at 8 in AP and 7 in Coaches with 8 weeks to go. Due to the strength of the entire MWC this year they are seen as a legitimate #7 and will move up with every loss by a team in front of them. Keep in mind some of the teams in front of them play each other. If BYU wins out they have a good chance at the top 4 by season's end.

This is the hardest game so far this season for us. We've been off for 2 weeks so we won't be in rythym, we play on the road, and Utah State is 1-0 in their conference play. With a decisive win today, we will prove we belong in the top 25. Prediction:
BYU 35
USU 21
GO COUGARS!!!

BYU has some supporters out there in media land. If teams ahead of them in the polls lose, then the Y moves up and it is simple as that! I think the pollsters would be excited about a BCS shake-up if a non-BCS team was able to play for the National Championship. In fact, it probably would be good for the BCS in the long run since then they could say that the system worked and a non-BCS team can actually have a chance to win it all.
Go BYU and don't let up!! and congrats to the Utes for pulling it out at the very end with some great plays.

Ute Fan Here | 6:58 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
BYU should destroy the Ags. The Ags are the worst team on your schedule this year. Don't lose focus. I looked at all the teams ahead of BYU and Utah this week. All of them should end the year with a loss or two so BYU realistically could end up in the 2nd or 3rd spot nationally and Utah could end up in the top 8 or 9 if we both continue to win. Go Utes
Wheels in motion... | 7:19 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I can't stand the Utes any more than the next guy. In fact, I probably dislike them more than most. But, as I watched the last part of the game last night, I really found myself having a hard time rooting against them. We got a perfect scenario, Utah barely wins over a Pac-10 team, looks pathetic for large portions of the game, and comes out winning with a last second field goal. It shows that the Utes really are not that good but they will still move up in the rankings perfect to receive a spanking at the hands of BYU in November--BYU will have their fate in their own hands on that one. In other words, BYU will determine who wins. The only thing that could be better for BYU is that all of the current top 10 teams lose 1-2 games.

WHITE OUT!!! | 7:44 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
BYU fans should wear their "White Out" shirts to the game, or a white t'shirt if you don't have a "White Out" shirt so it'll be easy to distinguish all of the Cougar fans.
The Aggies will be fired up, so BYU needs to come out sharp and take the fight out of the Aggies with early scoring drives. BYU can't afford to play sloppy like they did early in the Wyoming game. The longer you allow a team like Utah State to stay in the game, the more dangerous they will become, especially at home.
See you at the game!

Here is to an upset! I know it is a long shot, but that is why you have to play the game....I love how college football is getting more and more competitive. By the way, USU's schedule has thus far been much more difficult than BYU's.

At least now we won't have to hear any more whining from Utah fans about how the officials won the game for us at UW!
Denver Cougar | 7:55 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
If BYU is not careful, they will do a Denver Broncos. The Broncos lost to KC when they were supposed to win by a large margin. Or, they could do a Rockies World Series. Rockies had too much time between the final game of the playoffs and the start of the World Series and lost their edge (assuming they had one -- I personally think last year's Series was a fluke). BYU has only had 1 week off, but it might be enough to get them off guard.
Still it would be fun to see the BYU USU game. I doubt that a win will affect the poll standings much -- a loss probably will, but not a win.

You guys will get the national exposure utah got last night if you lose tonight.
Utah state will be your toughest game yet they actually have won a game so this should be a test for byu.

Storming the field? | 8:04 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I couldn't watch the Utah Oregon St. game last night but did I hear correctly that Utah stormed the field? Are you kidding me Utah? Weren't you the favorite? Aren't you the team ranked #15 and Oregon State the unranked team? I'm actually embarrassed for you. How pathetic. I'm actually glad Utah won and I hope they keep winning because it only helps BYU. I can't wait for Nov. 22nd when BYU can beat an overrated, desperate Utah program that may be in the top 10 if they win out.
RE: Don't worry | 8:25 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Yep, you got a lot of national exposure on VERSUS alright. You won and can be proud of that but all that was exposed last night is that your team is average at best with probably the best kicker in the country to bail you out!

As a diehard Cougar fan that’s spent most of my time in the SEC and ACC conference shadows there are some really big rivalries. The fans vary rarely down played other teams in the conference the way I see Ute and Cougar fans do. When teams in your conference are playing out of conference games you pull for your conference regardless of your team affiliation. A conference win is a conference win and builds creditability. Even if you’re a FSU that beats up on two Div II schools to start the season. As a Cougar fan I hope that the Uts go undefeated to till we meet. Utah fans should feel the same way. If the Mountain West is ever going to really bust the BCS the higher all our teams are ranked the better. Uts great come back last night, Cougars good luck tonight.
Bronco defies arrogant Y fans | 9:07 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
No doubt USU is on the brink of being a DII team but it is still nice to see sportsmanship especially out of a classy coach like Bronco. Bronco could have been much more reserved in his praise of USU, as an Aggie fan what is their to praise besides a win against Idaho? But true to his form Bronco was very sportsmanlike which is cool. It has become the norm in state for many years that BYU fans are the epitomy of arrogance which is to me a reflection of their true values, certainly not a surprise after meeting most Y fans. BYU fans never let you down in terms of taking every low blow possible, which is classless but that is the way of Provo. Breath of fresh air to have a coach that continues in the Y coaching tradition. Lavell was great as well, which as an Aggie who would expect less. Best of luck to BYU/Bronco. Pray the Aggies look at least respectable:)
Keep talking | 9:19 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Just wait for teams like USC to leap frog over BYU in the polls. It will happen because there is no way the BCS would let a non-BCS school in the title game. I have my ear plugs ready for when they do get jumped and the fans "can't believe" they got passed by because they are the best ever with no losses.

Do you think the Yankees will cheer for the Red Sox? Hey it's goood for the division right. Come on! If Utah wins great it will be good for the conference, if not I will not lose any sleep.

Re: Bronco defies arrogant Y fans.
Don't judge all BYU fans by the small percentage that embarrass us. They are the ones with the big mouths pumping their chests and crackin' on other teams and schools (namely Utah). The majority of "real BYU fans" root for the Y and respect all other teams. Unfortunately a few bad apples really do ruin the bunch in the eyes of others.

Have you met most Y fans? I'd say there are at least a few million throughout the world. Don't stereotype the masses due to an unfortunate past experience.

Sometimes I have to laugh at how negative people have to be. Yes the TV situation is not the best, but there was national exposure last night. I had the Ute game on with ESPN on in the picture in picture of the Pitt/USF Game theyt kept giving updates and just showing the highlights. That actually made Utah look better, they did not see the problems that they had as well. I found it easier than normal to cheer for Utah last night. The higher they are ranked when we beat them the better is for our RPI. As for tonight, a blowout is predicted and hoping no one is lost to injury. GO COUGARS!

Utah State beats BYU. Utah in line to win the boot.
Even with a losing record Aggie season declared a success! Loganites party like its 1999...
BYU 21
USU 35
The ides of November are soon upon us.
I feel a cold reception coming at the Crossroads of the West for the University of California at Provo.

An expert last night said the only way that BYU gets to the NC game is if every other team loses twice. That tells you how much respect BYU has on the national level. I am not a UTE fan. But that is what they said and I believe it to be true. They said that BYU's schedule and conference is too easy compared to the other teams in the hunt for the NC. So for you UTE fans on here, they included you since you are in the same conference.
re: Real BYU fans | 10:21 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Well said. I wish those few arrogant BYU fans that make the rest of us look bad would root for another team because they sure don't uphold the values of the team.

The biggest fake of all was BYU's national championship agaisnt a team that finished #4 in their conference. Why do you think we are now stuck witht he BCS.. Because BYU played the weakest team in history to win a NC and barely won at that.

Sir,
You have sold your soul. I am glad to see that you are a Utah fan again. I have no doubt whatsoever that with 2:00 minutes to go in the game last night you were not a Utah fan and then you became one again. I bet that in 2004 you were a HUGE Utah fan. And then in 2006 and 2007 not so much.

Nice broad brush comments. I live and work in SLC and am surrounded by Utah fans both at home and at work and I see plenty of them who also fit the description you are trying to paint of BYU fans. Get over yourself. There are idiot fans for every sports team, and you can't say those few people are representative of everyone. One of my co-workers was at the Utah-OSU game last night and he is a die-hard Ute fan but he was absolutely disgusted by the some of the behavior he heard from other Ute fans, including some that were behind the Utah bench and were yelling profanity laced insults at Brian Johnson after his turnovers. Using your stupid logic one could assume these morons were a reflection of Ute fans in general.
re: Keep talking | 10:44 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Just like they did last week, when you predicted the same thing?
USC's loss looks even worse now that the Beavers have lost to Utah. A team with a losing record shouldn't be beating any team in the Top 10.

I think it does tell you how much respect BYU gets nationwide.
The fact that people are even discussing BYU in the National Championship game after having played only 4 games is miraculous coming from the MWC. I don't hear anyone talking about Utah, Boise State, Ball State, Tulsa or anyone else outside the Non-BCS making it to the NC game. Actually there are only about 6 or 7 teams nationwide that have been discussed so BYU is in VERY good company.

And utah was humble after the 2004 season? The ultimate arragance is judging others as arrogant. As for the ankle biting aggies, their fans are not worth a comment. Try going to one of their games and watch them make fools of themselves. Probably a true reflection of their values.
