I hate the Mountain, I had to work during the Utah Oregon State game and I've now spent the last 30 min trying to find highlights online. None. Not on espn and not on the mwc website, which is an absolute joke by the way the only football highlights they had were from last year. The mwc is by far the worst thing to ever happen to sports in Utah. I hope that as asap utah and byu bail on this mickey mouse conference so they can get national recognition again and so people who live here can actually watch their games. I'm sure the wac would be glad to have them back.

I love how we have to dig and dig to find some random dude who praised once upon a star. Have we really fallen that far as a program? Why do we always have to argue that our team is good this year by pointing out Steve Young is in the hall of fame? Is Walsh still playing football? I remember when we all thought he was the best quarterback to ever pass through BYU.
Anyways, I think the media doesn't like BYU cuz we're always complaining we don''t get attention and arguing "we're just as good as..." some other school. Most cougar fans embarass me. We all came to BYU to escape the world, why do we need to try and show we're just as good as the world? Doesn't that inherently say we really think we're inferior to the rest of the world?
And with Steve Young in the Hall of Fame, doesn't that mean he broke the sabbath almost every week on national TV? And we idolize that? Please don't embarass me anymore BYU fans and lets celebrate a nice, hard fought victory over USU, but with sportsmanship, showing kindness, not aggression.

Scott Pierce and I were Journalism school grads together at BYU. My post-BYU journalism career lasted six months, then joined the USAF. Glad to see he stuck with the plan. As for the game tonight, I don't have anything against the Doctrine and Covenants (modern revelation is a good thing), but you can only watch so many hours of old guys sitting around a table talking about it (or is it them?)! Being in SC, I'm so glad the football game is on tonight. I love BYU TV and the scriptures and all the good stuff they put on TV, but would love to see more sports!

Mike Wilbon of Pardon the Interruption put BYU in his Top Five!

Last night I flipped over to South Florida vs Pitt and the idiot announcer on ESPN2 derided the Mountain West with an SEC comment, so I flipped the channel back to Versus and didn't turn back to ESPN2 the rest of the night. That Pittsburgh team is probably as good as their 2002 team, which lost 35-10 to Utah of the lowly MWC in the Fiesta Bowl. I'd love to see BYU or Utah play the Big East Champion right now!!

You can only play the teams on your schedule. When BYU scheduled UCLA and Washington, I'm sure we thought beating them would be huge wins that would carry a lot of weight. Same with Utah and Michigan. The Utes go to the Big House and beat Michigan and still can't get any respect. But last night should change that after Utah "beat the team that BEAT Southern Cal." I coined that phrase this morning hassling one of my MWC-disrespecting friends, but anyone who wants can use it!!

For BYU and Utah, the toughest competition is within their own conference!

I think that Utah/Pitt score was 35-7, as I recall. I did that from memory, didn't have any record books in front of me, so you Utes fans don't have a cow!!! I was trying to compliment your team!
The Mtn | 10:03 a.m. Oct. 3, 2008
The Mtn is on DirectTV. According to this writer's math, only 2 million homes have The Mtn. I believe his math is incorrect. With DirectTV, The Mtn is available in more than 2 million homes.

Since when is Ohio State-Penn State a rivalry game? Key conference game, yes, rivalry game, no.
TV | 12:17 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
So if BYU and Utah both go undefeated they get the reward of only 2 million viewers on the MTN???? That game should be televised on the MTN, VS, & CSTV for the exposure of the MWC. To bad ESPN can't come in and buy that game. It would be great to have that game on ESPN, having the ESPN game day Crew in SLC. ESPN will not promote that game as heavily as they would if they had the right to it. Please tell me that someone in the MWC can do something about this game being seen by the masses.

You sound very bitter, what's with all the hasty comments? I don't see the grounds you are basing them on. Chill out, and you are the type of Cougar fans that embarresses the school and other fans.

I'm sure Direct TV makes The Mountain available to more than 2 million people, but it's possible that only 2 million people pay the fees to actually have it in their homes.
Re: a fan | 2:04 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
I agree with you. Sometimes it feels like we are better qualified to write these articles than those who actually wrote them. OSU and Michigan is a rivalry. PSU and OSU is not so much.

Well facts are stubborn things. Fact: the Mountain is destroying BYU's chance at a NC game. Fact: The Mountain is not helping BYU gain top LDS recruits. Fact: The Mountain has poorer quality than my high school team in Southern California. Fact: The Mountain will never be worth the $. BYU needs to wake up and realize that the mountain hurts much more than it helps. 40 hours on ESPN is worth MILLIONS more than 1,000 hours on the MTN. If i were in the buisiness program or marketing program at BYU, I would drop out quick knowing the fools don't practice what they are preaching or teaching!!!

I live in a small town in Eastern Oregon. I have been able to see every game this year. this is the best that I have had it and I am very happy. No more internet radio.
ESPN / ABC | 5:37 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
And getting your team on ESPN back in the early 80's was nothing to having it on ABC. The Mountain and Versus are growing and young, they will bring respect to the Mountain West. Give them time.
OC Surfer | 7:26 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Actually guys, this game is being shown also on BYU-TV nationwide.
I like both schools | 7:53 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
Can we lay off the TV sports anchors and their opinions about the teams? Ten bucks says that Alberts doesn't even vaguely remember his 2004 opinion of the Utes, and we end up looking like a flock of bitter grudge-bearers. We're like that old lady who drives five miles back to the Burger King to get a new burger because they forget to make it without onions. Let it go! Some people like your team, some people don't. It has no effect on how they play.

I use to go to the BYU games, sat on the 45 yard line, eight rows back, (on the main landing) behind the team. Not long after we stopped going, the team also seemed to dwindle and I stopped watching them. I have not watched them for years, but came across one a few weeks ago, and this year I have been able to watch three, including tonight's game, thanks to DirectTV/Dish Network, I will give them both credit. I am happy to see the Y doing so well, but congrats to USU for being a much stronger team then in the years past.
goodjobaggies | 10:32 p.m. Oct. 3, 2008
you gave the rusty and lazy Y players the kick in the butt they needed to show them rankings mean nothing and they really need to get focused to keep that nation leading 15 game winning streak going! You could have given up and rolled over but you didn't
I'm glad you didn't because the boys in blue were way over confindent.
SO great game aggies!
BYU you ALL disappointed me! lets see if you can suck it up ,stop reading the polls, and pay attention to Mendenhal this week!
