upsets have been kind | 1:47 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
to the cougars thus far in the season! utes have held serve but have done nothing to impresse voters and tcu should pass the utes easily after they lose to byu then beat utah two weeks later. Even with all the upsets this early i find it odd how utah is still ranked that far behind byu!! if you asked me i would say its because they lack tradition, spirit and honor...oh and making the right decisions on and off the turf

I predict that the Cougs drop one in each poll since all of the top 10 mostly proved they should be there, but should gain it back next week if they can beat New Mexico.

#1 OK should beat #5 Texas and I predict Florida will take it to the overrated LSU. Beyond that we can only home that it is upset Saturday again for the top 10 so that a victorious BYU can move up.

Possibly BYU will drop one or two spots but nobody right below us had a stunning win. And the teams in the neighborhood for the most part had ho-hum wins. I think most writers will look at the score against Utah St, maybe look at the box score and see it was 24-0 after the first quarter and leave BYU where they are at.

As for Utah not getting the respect that BYU, chalk that up to consistency over the past few years. I think the media also likes Mendenhall. He is a quiet version of a young Bear Bryant. And they love that he talks a great team concept game and proves it with players that east coast writers snoot their noses at, as far as "quality" goes. They are fixated on 5-star recruiting classes.

BYU needs to stay focused on New Mexico, put a chip on their shoulder and not worry about hurting the other teams feelings once they score 50 points on them.

Then they need to worry about this new quarterback at TCU. Running quarterbacks have been a problem for BYU's defense. Best way to solve that is by our offense converting 3rd downs.

talk all you want ute and cougar fans! Your guys regular season schedule is pathetic. I don't know where you guys think you have the nerve to start saying other teams like LSU and other top schools are. YOu guys are a joke! Any top SEC or BIg 12 would run you.
Self-Righteous if you ask me. | 8:33 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
All I have to say is wow to the first comment. This is the main reason I dislike BYU fans! It is because they think they are perfect and that since "they are making the right decisions on and off the turf" they are in the top ten. Doing the right things away from the football field has nothing to do with football. God does not care about one little football game. I am LDS and it just makes me sick that you guys think like that. I can't wait to watch Utah trample BYU even if it is in the last second. So maybe you should start praying really hard because I guess that how you win your games... right?

Whichever team wins this game, it doens't seem like the loser should drop from the top 10.

Re: upsets have been kind

In Sagarin computer ranking, Utah has just passed BYU.
Utah 14
TCU 15
BYU 16

Lack tradition? When was the last time BYU went to a meaningful bowl and won it? Utah's been there --won the 2004 Fiesta Bowl. That's a BCS bowl, I have to remind you.
BYU is still dreaming to make it to a BCS bowl this year.
Re: upsets have been kind | 9:24 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Nice anger baiting and way to start off a blog!

When you constantly have to preach that you have a certain attribute i.e. "tradition, honor and spirit" or "living right on and off the field" it is generally because you haven't shown the world or community, with your actions, that you have it.

Talk is really cheap and generally exagerated.
Red | 9:39 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
That is a really stupid comment "upsets have been kind".

The only reason byu is so far ahead of Utah in the polls is that they started out 15th in the polls at the beginning of the season. To make a comment about tradition, spirit, and honor only demeans byu by making their fans look brainless and stupid.
RE: upsetsd have been kind | 10:41 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
What are you talking about the utes havent impressed voter they beat michigan at michigan, held air forece to 53 yards total offense and the week after OSU noked usc off, the uts came out and showed them how real football is played so you must be mental to say utah hasent imppressed voters
re:Eugene | 10:52 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Would it be OK with you if NCAA football got rid of all of the voters and just went with your gut feeling from now on?
stock is dropping | 11:03 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Hey yoots your win in the 'big house' lost some more of its luster. Unranked Illinois just killed Michigan there 45-20. Let's see who else does Illinois have big signature wins over this year? Oh yeah Eastern Illinois and Loisianna LaFayette (20-17 at home). I guess Illinois is a much better team than the yoots because they beat Michigan by 25 and u only beat them by 2. Why are u guys even ranked?
National Championships | 11:55 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008

Utah 0
End of story
re: talk talk talk | 12:04 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
yada, yada, yada!

Yawn! same ol' clueless blabber...

BYU is already in the Top 10; and will stay there as long as they don't lose.

Utah is banging on the door and will also be in the Top 10 by November 22nd as long as they don't lose.

The of an undefeated Top 10 BYU/Utah will be going to a BCS bowl, with an outside shot at the NC game.

Just face it; that's reality; regardless of how much you disagree.

all you bring em youngers who refer back to the days of bo diddly tech and your national championship
if those same rules were in effect today, then if only a division ii school finishes undefeated this year they should be the national champs too they didn't play anyone tougher then byu played in 84 (including utah that year)

To re:Eugene:

Naw, let's let the voters have their say each week, but wait a minute, my gut feeling was right!!! The Cougs did drop one in each poll!! Wow!! Let's see how close I am in the 2nd paragraph prognistications.

Don't take things so seriously and have some fun!!! I'm sure you feel better now that you have gone after me in this meaningless blog. Relax and enjoy the game with friends!!
re:utah grads that couldn't | 1:16 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
get into byu...im sorry for your insecurity issues and envy for the only real university in the beehive sate. However, this gives you no excuse to act the way you do. Jealousy is an ugly attribute and you are all so transparent that it glows! No need to knock byu for their long winning streak, in the nation, over the utes, in conference, etc. Classes at byu start with prayers and often scripture thoughts...this def provides a competitive edge over opponents who lack spiritual faith. Im surprised Kwhit doesn't pick up on that considering he had ties to Brigham Young University, btw brigham young was a mormon prohpet...
como what? | 1:24 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
how could utah fans not understand what i was saying?!?!? come on guys, trying to talk with you is like reasoning with a two year old. WHAT I SAID WAS Utah has no marquee wins, less than impressive style points (im being generous), and an ugly history since 2004! why should voters even consider moving you higher in the polls under that criteria?? And whether you like it or not, living right of the field DOES translate into an advantage for byu players...
signed crowton's players at byu

the polls mean nothing. a playoff system means everything.
if Div 1-aa can do it so can Div 1-a. time to equalize the recruiting and playing field. time for a class action lawsuit for preventing our boys from earning a chance at an NFL contract just b/c they play in the non-BSC elitist conferences. the NCAA needs to take back control and create a playoff system we can all be proud of. time for the Government to take control of the BSC and NCAA finances like they did for the private banks.
no impressive wins? | 6:40 p.m. Oct. 5, 2008
BYU fans can justify their wins against whoever they want...They would try to make an ITT Tech football team look good...

Michigan may not have been a great team, especially compared to their usual tradition of great teams...But when they poll voters look at the victories, see Utah has beaten Michigan and OSU (who both have quality wins against ranked opponents)and BYU has beaten Washington and UCLA (UCLA has one quality win) but its that squeaker win over Washington that gained national notoriety due to the call at the end that really hurt BYU...

Granted they still got the win, Utah barely got the wins against Michigan and OSU, but the national media doesn't see their victories due to a bad call...

I predict that Utah will rise a couple spots to around 10 if they keep winning, and BYU will maybe rise 1 or 2 by the time they meet up on Nov 22nd...

by then, all that matters is who wins the game, so SOS means nothing for the rest of the year...

Michigan 2-3 = UCLA 2-3

What's with all the hatespeach on this blog? Methinks this is the kind of stuff that was discussed in General Conference this afternoon. Both Utah and BYU fans, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Utah has a good team. I was disappointed, however, that the Utah fans would actually 'boo' their own quarterback during last weeks game. It was a disgraceful display toward one of the best teams Utah has ever fielded.

I'm a non-Utah Mormon. I think you people in "Zion" should learn to be respectful. You give Mormons a bad name.

Re: stock is dropping

Hilarious! Last week, the TDS was ranked #8 in the AP poll, and #7 in USA Today, but dropped a spot to Nos. 8 and 9 respectively, while the “yoots” went from #15 in both polls up to #14 (AP) and #13 (USA Today), yet fans from the TDS are calling OUR stock as the one that’s dropping.

Hahahahahaha!

GO UTES!!!
