The last director said the Punisher is a one dimensional character that shoots bad guys. No wonder the last one stunk. Reading the comic book years ago, I found a Vietnam vet who loved his country and detested enemies domestic with equal fervor as he did the foe in the jungles of Vietnam. A man inflamed by the inability of the justice system to administer justice to the guilty, and unable to extend mercy to the victim. The story of the Punisher is a social commentary on urban rot and its effect on people, including families, (Castle's family was murdered). A marine who had a belly full and declared total war on terrorising criminal elements. Grim, cold, and determined. That's the Punisher, control the battlefield, control the outcome, destroy the enemy. If this is a movie about fancy gun play and body counts, it'll be a flop. If it actually gives life to Castle's motivation and reasoning for his vigilantism, allows victims of violent crimes to be a big part of the story, and isn't afraid to show the impotence of part of our justice system the movie could be successful. Prediction: choreographed gun play, bodies, no brains or passion.
